It goes without saying that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is one of the most heavily-anticipated movies of 2026. The film is set to bring back Tom Holland's Peter Parker for the first time in almost five years as he is still grappling with a world that forgot he exists - even though they are fully aware of Spider-Man's existence. Holland is once again joined by Zendaya's MJ and Jacob Batalon's Ned Leeds, while Marvel heavyweights Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal reprise their MCU roles as the Hulk and The Punisher, respectively.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe film is expected to feature a number of mysteries like any good superhero movie. However, the biggest mystery of them all has been the one surrounding Sadie Sink's undisclosed character. The Stranger Things star is set to play a major role in the film - and we have already seen the impact she has made in the trailers - but the character's identity remains, well, a mystery.

That is, until now it seems...

Marvel merchandise seemingly spoils the identity of Sadie Sink's Spider-Man: Brand New Day character

Whenever a major Marvel movie is on the horizon, you can always lean on the merchandise for a sneak peek of what to expect from it. Last year, we caught an early glimpse of the Red Hulk ahead of Captain America: Brave New World's theatrical debut in the accompanying toys, the year before that we knew that Billy would ultimately become Wiccan in Agatha All Along due to the Funko POPs, and now we might finally have answers about Sadie Sink's Spider-Man: Brand New Day character for the same reason.

As reported by ComicBookMovie, a new image has surfaced of what appears to be a bag clip of Sink's mystery character and, from the looks of it, it pretty much confirms that the character is none other than X-Men legend Jean Grey. For starters, the figurine / bag clip is sporting the same outfit that Sink's character is seen sporting in the film's various trailers while also featuring Sink's signature red hair. On the Jean front, however, the character is radiating what appears to be pink energy from her hands and eyes, which would indeed suggest that she is Jean.

While it's important to point out that we should hold off on assuming this is official confirmation until more imagery of this particular bag clip makes its way around the internet, but fans have cautiously begun accepting that this is just the most recent piece of evidence that Sink is playing Jean Grey in what is shaping up to be a pretty long list of evidence.

The moment that Sink was cast in the undisclosed role, rumors began circulating that she could be portraying Jean - which understandably left a lot of Marvel fans feeling perplexed because this is, after all, a Spider-Man movie. However, the more that we learned about this particular Spider-Man movie (and the MCU's next chapter in general), the more that it became a real possibility. See, Brand New Day is all about the idea of mutation, as Peter Parker is undergoing his own metamorphosis - and this could very well set the stage for the franchise's upcoming integration of the X-Men in its next era (which is currently known as "The Mutants Era").

In both the comics and the beloved Spider-Man: The Animated Series, the webslinger would often cross paths with Marvel's Mightiest Mutants whenever he was going through something similar, so it's not too far-fetched to believe that the same thing might happen here. This is especially true when you factor in how the evidence that Sink is playing Jean Grey has only increased since the trailer unveiled the first looks at her character.

From the looks of it, Sink's potentially villainous role will allow her to take over the bodies of those around her, which is very much in line with Jean Grey's powers and abilities. The new, leaked Brand New Day trailer revealed that Spider-Man will be the only one immune to these abilities, which also may double down on the potential mutants' connection between them. And let's not overlook the fact that the character is also wearing yellow, which Marvel fans know is Jean Grey's signature color.

As with all Marvel rumors, it's important to take this one with a pinch of salt until officially confirmed by Sony and / or Marvel. In this case, that confirmation might simply come via further merchandise, but considering that both studios are undoubtedly eager to keep Sadie Sink's Spider-Man: Brand New Day character under wraps for as long as possible, we wouldn't be surprised if we had to wait until the movie's release to get definitive confirmation.

If it is Jean Grey, however, Sink joins an iconic line up of stars to portray the beloved X-Men character, which includes the likes of Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. This would also mean that we get to see two different versions of the hero this summer, as Jean will be back on our screens this July in the second season of Disney Plus series X-Men '97.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in movie theaters on July 31, 2026.
