Recently, the iconic hero swung to new heights thanks to the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day—a street-level adventure that is tracking to become the second-highest-grossing superhero movie of all time behind Avengers: Endgame. The ongoing arachnid fever provoked by the film has resulted in 316K copies of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 being sold, with the game hitting 1 million players on the weekend of Aug. 8-9, 2026. As such, it was only fitting that fans finally received news about the upcoming installment in Insomniac Games' acclaimed superhero saga.
Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is reportedly in production
The "final chapter" may be on its way. A new page for Marvel's Spider-Man 3 has appeared on IMDb and IMDb Pro, claiming that the game is officially in production. Furthermore, the dynamic duo behind Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man 2—Bryan Intihar and Ryan Smith—are listed as the directors of the wall-crawler's trilogy capper.
The timing of the news certainly makes sense, as developer Insomniac Games is set to release its next title, Marvel's Wolverine, on September 15, 2026. Since Logan's upcoming adventure is nearly ready to be shipped, the studio will focus its resources on developing its next big project, with Marvel's Spider-Man 3 being the most likely candidate.
At this point, it is an open secret that a new installment in the web-slingers' ongoing franchise is coming our way. Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal revealed that his iteration of the friendly neighborhood hero won't spend too long in retirement after the events of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Furthermore, Miles Morales voice actor Nadji Jeter has confirmed that his character won't be using the Adidas suit moving forward, indirectly confirming that there will be more installments in the future.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 also featured a post-credits scene that hinted there would be more to the story, setting up an impending team-up between Doctor Octopus and Norman Osborn and the debut of Cindy Moon as Silk. But just to remove any sense of doubt, Peter Parker's face model, Ben Jordan, uploaded a picture of himself wearing a mo-cap suit for an upcoming Spider-Man game before swiftly deleting the post.

A key thing to take into consideration is that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is still a long way off. If full production has just started, then the game is likely to spend two more years in development at the very least, based on production timelines for most modern AAA games. That means 2028 would be the earliest we'd get to take control of both Spider-Men once more. However, not everything is grim.
While 2026 will be home to Marvel's Wolverine, it has been reported that Insomniac has also been hard at work developing a Marvel's Venom spin-off, which is slated to hit shelves in 2027. If that were to be the case, Insomniac would deliver yearly Marvel video game releases in the foreseeable future. Better yet, the Lethal Protector's upcoming adventure would likely be unveiled later this year, and rumor has it that Eddie Brock will be at the helm this time around.
Of course, it's important to remember that Marvel and PlayStation haven't officially confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is indeed coming our way. However, it's just a matter of time before the cat is out of the bag, and with a bit of luck, we'll get to play the game sooner rather than later.
