Keep your friends close, but your green, giant, destructive enemies even closer. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature the return of everyone's favorite gamma radiation expert, but there's a big change in store for his character. Ever since the events of Avengers: Endgame, we've seen Bruce Banner transform into Professor Hulk, a perfect mix of Banner's mind and the Green Goliath's muscle. That also means we haven't seen the Hulk be a destructive force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in quite some time, but this is about to change.
Bruce Banner is set to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it has been heavily rumored that he will lose control of his other half for the first time in seven years. Not only that, but the movie's promotional materials and action figures have also revealed that a savage version of the Hulk is coming our way. So, now that Iron Man isn't around anymore to suit up in his Hulkbuster armor, who will stand against the Green Goliath? Turns out, it will be none other than a friendly teenager from Queens.
New Spider-Man: Brand New Day promo posters showcase Spider-Man fighting the Hulk
Spider-Man and the Hulk haven't directly interacted in the MCU so far. However, it seems Brand New Day will have them go from friends to enemies in the span of a single movie. Two new promo posters for the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure have been revealed, and the first one directly depicts the two Marvel icons fighting.

The second poster doubles down on the idea that there will be a hero-vs-hero showdown. After all, it reads: "See the wallcrawler take on four of his fiercest foes!" with pictures of Boomerang, Scorpion, Tarantula, and The Hulk. Now the question becomes: Why will the Hulk be on the wrong side of history yet again after many years of a peaceful life?
Bruce Banner has been using an inhibitor that has allowed him to remain in his human form without any unexpected transformations. Audiences were able to see this device in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and in the trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, it seems it will malfunction at some point in the upcoming MCU film, as teased by the synopsis of a Hulk figure:
"In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Bruce Banner uses an inhibitor that keeps him in human form since the events of Endgame. But this constraint has its limits: the film marks the return of the Hulk in his feral form, a departure from the Smart Hulk of previous films. Banner and Peter Parker, both grappling with uncontrollable transformations, find themselves in a parallel narrative at the heart of the film."
Furthermore, a picture from the latest issue of Empire Magazine showcases Spider-Man seemingly trying to fix the Hulk's inhibitor, with MJ beside him. While it remains unclear why the device will be broken in the first place, it was previously reported that one of the film's antagonists will use the Savage Hulk as a "diversion" to keep the Punisher and Spider-Man distracted. So, that could be a small hint of what's really going on behind the scenes.
Since Tombstone is one of the few who wasn't featured in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, fans have speculated that there is a big reason why Marvel is trying to keep his appearance a secret. Perhaps he will be revealed to be the big bad of the film, hiring villains like The Hand, Scorpion, Tarantula, and Boomerang to do his every bidding. If that were to be the case, it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume that he's behind the Savage Hulk's transformation as well.
With rumors of a second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer being just around the corner, perhaps it won't be long before we get a glimpse of Savage Hulk in action and Spidey trying to stop him. Better yet, the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure isn't far away now.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on Jul. 31, 2026.
