It's a brand new day for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back in 2025, Disney and Marvel Studios had a difficult time drawing audiences to watch projects like Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, despite being released to positive critical reception. Similarly, not many fans tuned in to the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, and viewership numbers were even weaker for the second season in early 2026. But if there's one hero who could save the day even with all odds against him, it is the wall-crawler himself.
The masked menace returns! Nearly five years have gone by since the wall-crawler's previous installment in the MCU, meaning fans worldwide were eager to watch Peter Parker take center stage once more. Fortunately, that day finally came with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day—a street-level epic featuring characters from the extended Marvel Universe such as the Punisher and Hulk. Early projections suggested the wall-crawler could swing higher than ever at the box office thanks to its latest adventure, and yet nothing could've prepared us for how fast the film crossed a major milestone.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially crossed the $1 billion mark six days after its international release

On Aug. 3, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the box office, just six days after its international release on Jul. 29. To put into perspective how impressive this feat is, here are the top eight fastest movies that crossed the $1 billion mark, and how long it took them to do so:

Spider-Man: Brand New Day also had the highest domestic box-office opening for any movie, grossing a whopping $360 million in the process and taking the crown from Avengers: Endgame, which held the previous record at $357.1 million.
Earth's Mightiest Heroes did beat the wall-crawler at the worldwide box office, as Endgame grossed $1.2 billion after the end of its first weekend in theaters, while Brand New Day grossed $941.8 million during the same timeframe across all territories. Still, it's impressive how a single character is able to go toe-to-toe with one of the biggest superhero crossover projects ever created.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now expected to gross over $2 billion during its entire theatrical run, which would make it part of an exclusive club to which only seven more movies belong: Avatar, Avengers: Doomsday, Avatar: The Way of Water, Titanic, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ne Zha 2.
Spidey's recent success has certainly made the release of another film in the character's saga all the more likely. While Spider-Man 5 isn't officially in the cards just yet, the ending of Brand New Day did reveal that the wall-crawler will be back in the future. Furthermore, Tom Holland revealed that the character's future is "bright," even if a little unclear at the moment. However, Sony and Marvel aren't likely to throw away the opportunity to create more Spider-Man movies, given how successful they have historically proven to be.
Interestingly, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal—who all starred in Spider-Man: Brand New Day—are also part of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is also breaking box-office records. The Greek epic grossed $912.3 million a little over two weeks after its release, and it is now shaping to finish its theatrical run at $1.4 billion, which would make it the most successful R-rated movie ever made.
It's been a successful summer not only for Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal, but for Marvel as a whole. Now, all eyes are set on Avengers: Doomsday to determine whether the upcoming crossover can capture lightning in a bottle once again. However, if first-day pre-sales are anything to go by, it seems Disney has another big success on its hands.
