Spider-Man is one of the world's most famous superheroes. The webslinger has been crawling his way across the pages of Marvel Comics since his debut all the way back in 1962 but he has achieved his greatest success within the past two decades, dominating the silver screen with major movies and the small one with countless animated series. And now he's back with his next adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming movie and it has brought Tom Holland's webslinger back to our screens. To say that it has sent the internet into meltdown would be a major, major understatement. And now, it's all that MCU fans can talk about - for good reason too, as there is a lot to discuss!
With that in mind, we're here to provide you with a breakdown of events that happened in the trailer. From confirming the villain to pointing out the big reveals, here's everything you missed in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer.

The Punisher and Spider-Man cross paths
One of the biggest draws in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Jon Bernthal's addition to the cast as The Punisher. The Walking Dead star has played Frank Castle in the MCU since his debut in 2016, when he starred in Daredevil season 2, and now he's set to make his long-awaited debut on the big screen.
Bernthal's anti-hero appears in a number of clips throughout the trailer. It looks as if he will be attempting to track down the same villains that Spidey is after, but of course, the webslinger isn't a fan of that idea due to The Punisher's brutal methods of vigilantism. The two exchange words and Frank even runs Peter down, but the clip also implies that they will form an unlikely alliance before the end of the movie.
Bernthal has been a regular of Marvel programming since his debut in the Marvel Netflix Universe. After his debut in Daredevil season 2, he headlined his own series in spinoff The Punisher. After the cancellation of the Marvel Netflix shows, the character's future remained in limbo until Disney Plus revival Daredevil: Born Again reintroduced him, canonizing the events of the Netflix shows and setting the stage for a potential long-term MCU future. After this one, he returns in his own Disney Plus Special Presentation.

The Scorpion returns as a major villain
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer also features a host of villains that the webslinger will have to take on. However, among them are two incredibly significant ones. On one hand, we get our first look at Michael Mando's return as the Scorpion, and this time he is fully suited up in the character's comic-accurate look. To say that it is an intimidating sight would be an understatement.
Mando, of course, made a cameo appearance as the villain in 2017s Spider-Man: Homecoming, debuting in the post-credits scene when he asked the Vulture (Michael Keaton) about Spidey's true identity. It had remained one of the MCU's biggest loose ends... until now. It's unclear how large a role he will play in Brand New Day, but there is no denying that it will be an epic sight seeing him don his iconic suit to battle Spider-Man.

The Hand is back
The other big story is that Spidey will be going up against The Hand. The ancient villainous organization was the Big Bad of the Marvel Netflix Universe, serving as a threat throughout the first two seasons of Daredevil, as well as the first season of Iron Fist - before ultimately going down as the main villain in The Defenders when Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage came together to put them down.
Those shows in particular showcased how resistant The Hand is to death, so it's no real surprise that they are back. But seeing them attempt to take Spider-Man out in what would be an incredibly violent death - especially for a Spider-Man movie - is a truly shocking sight. After all, these villains worked extremely well in the grounded nature of the Netflix shows, so it will be interesting to see how they cope in the larger-than-life world of a Spider-Man movie.

Spider-Man's new suit
One of the things that makes Spidey so timeless is his look. The suit that Peter Parker wears to do his webslinging is so iconic that it has mostly stayed the same over the years. While various movies and shows have made minor adjustments for their respective adaptations, the heart and soul of the Spider-Man suit has remained in place.
We've seen different versions of Spider-Man appear on the big screen over the years, but the character has headlined four separate film series (three live-action and one animated). Now, Tom Holland is back to play him in a fourth MCU movie. And, of course, that calls for a brand new suit.
It was well-documented at this point that Spidey would be donning a brand new suit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the first trailer features that in all of its beautiful glory. Holland looks incredible sporting the suit throughout the trailer, both with the mask on and the mask off, and we can't wait to see it on the big screen this summer!
WE CALLED IT: Spider-Man Is Literally COCOONING in Brand New Day 🚨

Our organic webbing mutation theory just got CONFIRMED by the trailer clips.

Organic webbing and a rebirth
While the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is understandably focused on the action-packed showdowns and the emotional heart of the movie (through Peter Parker's attempt to reconnect with both MJ and Ned), perhaps the biggest story of beat of the clip is the fact that Spidey himself is undergoing a metamorphosis.
That metamorphosis involves Peter waking up as he dangles above the city only to find out that he's in a web cocoon. He falls to the ground, but not before he's able to activate his webbing from his wrists. The big surprise? He's not wearing his web-shooters (or much of anything in this particular scene). Yes, it appears that the MCU is taking Spidey's story one step further and having him develoop organic webbing.
Needless to say, this is a huge development as it brings the character more in-line with his comic book counterpart (and Tobey Maguire's classic Spider-Man) and , considering the emotional rollercoaster that Peter has been on recently, this rebirth couldn't be better timed.
