2026 will be home to one of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe crossovers in recent memory. Many heroes, anti-heroes, and villains are set to come together in one action-packed film that builds upon years of storytelling on the big screen, while also setting up exciting things to come. And no, we're not talking about Avengers: Doomsday (though we're also excited for that one, too).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to mark a new chapter in the life of our favorite friendly neighborhood hero. After being the star of a big, multiversal tale, Peter Parker will go back to his roots defending New York City from street-level crime. But despite being forgotten by the entire world, Peter will hardly be alone.
Heavy hitters like the Punisher and Hulk are confirmed to appear in the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure. Furthermore, it has been widely speculated (and reported) that Jean Grey and Yelena Belova will have a role to play in the movie as well. But if that wasn't enough, it seems superhero fans are about to witness the beginnings of a big crossover.

Matt Murdock will reportedly be mentioned in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
You can't escape the devil. According to scooper The Beyond Reporter, Matt Murdock will be mentioned in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This would somewhat mirror the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, where Wilson Fisk made a Spider-Man reference that shook the MCU.
At this point, name-dropping Daredevil in Spider-Man: Brand New Day would be the least Marvel could do. After all, the film will have multiple connections to the Man Without Fear and the many characters that inhabit his universe. Frank Castle will team up with the wall-crawler (potentially to fight Savage Hulk), while it has been rumored that Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple will nurse Peter back to health after a devastating fight. Furthermore, it has been reported that The Hand will act as the main antagonist.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day could very well have all the makings of a team-up adventure between Peter Parker and Matt Murdock, but that will not be the case. However, Marvel could take advantage of the opportunity to drop a few Daredevil references here and there, setting up a proper team-up between the two further down the line.
It has been reported that there will be a massive street-level crossover movie in the MCU where heroes like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Punisher, Daredevil, and Spider-Man will all come together to rise against the Kingpin's new regime. This would mark the end of the ongoing Devil's Reign arc that started during the events of the Hawkeye TV series.
Unfortunately, this event will not materialize until after the Multiverse Saga comes to an end with the release of Avengers: Secret Wars (which is likely to be split into two parts). That means the film would be released in 2028 at the earliest, yet 2029 would seem all the more likely. Given that there's still a long way to go, it wouldn't make sense for Marvel to bring all these heroes together just yet. Instead, slowly building up towards it is the best way to go.
There are three big street-level MCU projects on the horizon with Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, the Punisher One Shot Special, and Brand New Day. Chances are that they will all slowly but steadily start building an interconnected web that will lead to greater things in the future. That's why those little nods, easter eggs, and mentions might hold more significance than they seem at first sight.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31, 2026.
