Star of one of Marvel’s biggest shows fails to secure Avengers: Doomsday role

While Avengers: Doomsday will feature the returns of several major MCU characters, the star of one of Marvel's biggest shows will not make an appearance in the film.

2026 might have only just begun, but the countdown is already on to December for Marvel fans. This is because December will bring with it the release of Marvel Studios’ most ambitious movie in the studio’s history: Avengers: Doomsday.

The fifth Avengers movie will bring together one of the largest casts of heroes the MCU has ever seen, pulling a mixture of both current MCU characters and heroes who will be making both their MCU and Avengers franchise debut. Marvel has worked to assemble a massive cast that is shaping up to be a who’s who of Marvel’s biggest heroes, but it seems there is one character from the Marvel TV world that did not manage to land an invitation to join Marvel’s upcoming Avengers film.

Daredevil will reportedly not appear in Avengers: Doomsday

It appears there is one actor from the current Marvel Cinematic Universe fans should not expect to see suit up in the battle against Doom when the Avengers next assemble. Not even Daredevil: Born Again’s rave reviews have been enough to land Charlie Cox a role in the looming battle against Doom.

Trusted Marvel source Daniel Richtman has reported that Cox will not appear in the upcoming Avengers film, noting that Cox’s Daredevil is not a part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. The news came on the heels of Marvel fan account Marvel Multiverse sharing a newly released photo of Cox and fellow Marvel star Lewis Pullman which prompted Richtman to share the photos with the note, “Too bad Daredevil isn’t in Doomsday.”

Given the popularity of the character, it’s surprising that Marvel will continue to sideline Daredevil and has no plans to bring him into the fold for what is sure to be the biggest Marvel Studios film in years. While Doomsday is going to have a stacked cast and spaces were likely limited, Cox has been a mainstay in the world of Marvel television since 2015 with the release of Daredevil season 1 on Netflix.

Despite appearing in three seasons of the Netflix series as well as The Defenders crossover series, and now returning to lead Daredevil: Born Again, Cox has only appeared in one Marvel film: Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even that appearance was a brief cameo and failed to see Cox suit up as Daredevil, and instead showed up to represent Peter Parker as Matt Murdock, rather than Matt’s alter ego.

As disappointing as it is that Daredevil will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, perhaps this is for the best. We don’t quite know what to expect from the film or when it will be set, but what we do know is that we’ll be getting a second season of Daredevil: Born Again in March and a third season is already in development. So throwing Daredevil randomly into the mix could complicate the storyline planned for Daredevil: Born Again, and there’s really no point in having Daredevil appear for a cameo in Doomsday when the film will already include so many other heroes.

Interestingly, the Doomsday cast does not include many stars from the Marvel Disney+ television series. The only characters who have appeared in a Marvel Disney+ series who are confirmed to appear in Doomsday are Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson / Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Danny Ramirez (Joaquín Torres / Falcon), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). Of the group, Hiddleston is the only actor whose last appearance was in a Marvel TV series, with Loki last appearing in season 2 of Loki. Mackie and Ramirez most recently starred in Captain America: Brave New World, while Stan, Pugh, and Russell led the cast of Thunderbolts.

It remains unclear whether any additional characters from the Marvel TV universe will be called up to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but it’s looking the stars of the cinematic side of the universe are the bigger priority for the studio at this time.
