It's been quite the run for Star Wars over the past few months. With highs on the Disney Plus streaming service in the form of Maul - Shadow Lord and unexpected lows in the underperformance of The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster for fans of that galaxy so far, far away.
Now, the next installment in the franchise has been confirmed as the official release date for the long-awaited second season of Ahsoka season 2 has been unveiled (a little earlier than anticipated, too).
Ahsoka season 2 release date confirmed ahead of D23
Ahsoka season 2 premieres on Disney Plus on Wednesday, January 20. 2027. The announcement leaked out ahead of the Lucasfilm D23 panel, where it was to be made by stars Rosario Dawson, Eman Esfandi, and Lucasfilm's own president Dave Filoni.
This is admittedly earlier than anticipated, as the blanket 2027 release window that was announced earlier this year had Star Wars fans worried that it might be held until after the release of the franchise's next movie (Star Wars: Starfighter which comes out in May and stars Ryan Gosling) as the studio continues to distance itself from the previous Disney Plus era in a bid to get Star Wars back to the big screen. Thankfully, that hasn't been the case.
The announcement was subsequently made at D23, with audiences being treated to the first trailer for the show's second season - which has since been released online. Needless to say it looks like Ahsoka herself is going to be in for an epic ride. You can get a glimpse of that for yourself by watching that one below:
The second season of Ahsoka was previously set for release this year, but it was subsequently delayed after the underperformance of The Mandalorian and Grogu at the box office. While not explicitly confirmed to be related to that, fans had predicted that it was coming as the Star Wars show was mysteriously absent from a number of "Disney Plus in 2026" promos that it previously featured in.
We're very thankful that the show is back on the release calendar, because four years between seasons for a two-season series (thus far) is a bit extreme. The good news is that the January release prevents it from being a full four years (as the first season came out in the summer of 2023). At this point, we'll take a three-and-a-half-year wait because we're very happy to see Rosario Dawson back as the iconic Ahsoka Tano!
