The word "legend" gets thrown around pretty easily, but in the Star Wars franchise, there are plenty of them. Whether it's the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul who featured in the prequel saga, or the classic characters like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia, who are all still so commonly associated with the movie series almost 50 years after the original trilogy began. Yep, Star Wars produces legends.
The beauty of the Star Wars movie series is that Lucasfilm has been able to successfully translate into small screen success too. It hasn't been smooth-sailing at all times, but the recent installments on Disney Plus have given us new Star Wars legends, particularly the likes of The Mandalorian, Grogu, and even the live-action debut of Ahsoka (who has previously appeared in animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars).
Now, it has been confirmed that one of the biggest Star Wars legends of all time will return in an upcoming project, and we couldn't be more excited!
Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader in Ahsoka season 2
The rumors are true, it seems, as it has been confirmed that Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader, in the second season of Disney Plus' Ahsoka. Deadline has confirmed the news in a somewhat overlooked announcement from the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, highlighting Anakin's complex relationship with Ahsoka as her Jedi Master.
Christensen himself appeared at the panel alongside star Rosario Dawson, as fans erupted at the long-awaited confirmation. Needless to say it's going to be exciting to see the two Star Wars titans share the screen again, especially after Christensen's appearance in the first season sent the internet into a complete meltdown.
Christensen has had a long and successful career, but the 44-year-old star is best known for his role as Anakin in the prequel trilogy, as he played the adult version of the character in 2002's Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and 2005's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. His descent from the hopeful, joyous Anakin to the infamous villain Darth Vader was held up as one of the strongest, most gripping aspects of the prequel trilogy and it certainly proved a shock for those who weren't aware that the twist was coming or simply weren't familiar with the earlier movies. Nevertheless, Christensen's performance is widely considered one of the franchise's most iconic.
His return to the show 17 years later in Disney Plus' Obi-Wan Kenobi really shocked viewers as it reunited him with Ewan McGregor, who reprised his role as the titular Jedi Master. Seeing him return again just two years later in the first season of Ahsoka also made for a game-changing event.
Ahsoka stars Dawson in the titular role, bringing together a long-awaited fan-casting. Ever since the character made her debut in The Clone Wars, Dawson was fan-cast in the role in countless pieces of artwork. When the announcement that she would actually play the role in The Mandalorian was made, audiences were full of praise. That was also the case when it was revealed that she would headline her own spinoff series. Dawson's performance was well worth the wait. We can't wait to see her return in season 2 next year, along with Christensen's Darth Vader.
Ahsoka season 2 premieres on Disney Plus in 2026.
