Star Wars legend will return for Disney Plus series, reports say
We have been reaping the rewards of Star Wars' new approach to storytelling over the past five years. The franchise has already bounced back into the world of cinema over the past decade, with major movies closing out the Skywalker Saga and laying the groundwork for both the future of the film series and various other stories that can be told on the big screen. But it has also taken its stories to the small screen too, thanks in no small part to the Disney Plus streaming service.
This has paved the way for new stories in the Star Wars universe such as The Mandalorian, but it has also set the stage for the return of some franchise legends like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cassian Andor, and Boba Fett. But there is one infamous Star Wars legend that made multiple appearances across the Disney Plus shows, and he might be the one that sent the internet into the biggest of meltdowns.
By the sounds of it, he's back to do it again.
Hayden Christensen reportedly bringing Darth Vader back in Ahsoka season 2
According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker, a.k.a. Darth Vader, in the second season of Ahsoka. Though the report doesn't reveal what kind of role he will be playing, it acknowledged that it will be a much bigger role than the one he played in the first season.
Christensen is a veteran of film, but he's best known for his Star Wars tenure, debuting in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones in 2003 and returning in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith in 2005. The character was involved in some of the biggest, most controversial moments of the whole franchise as Anakin Skywalker evolved into the major threat that was Darth Vader.
Fans were genuinely stunned when Christensen reprised the role almost two decades later in 2022's Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which reunited him with co-star Ewan McGregor. The show was one of the most successful that the streaming service had ever produced, with the star's return being praised by audiences, both for how shocking it was and how it served the ongoing storyline.
He then reprised the role again in the first season of Ahsoka. As that series was set earlier than Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was digitally de-aged to match his appearance during the two prequel movies. He also appeared in four episodes, which really does make one wonder how that role could be increased in Ahsoka season 2.
As the Star Wars Universe continues to expand through films and television, it's always nice to see links like these make their presence felt. It reminds us that it all takes place under the one big super-sized umbrella and, with Ahsoka now the only ongoing multi-season TV series (not miniseries) in the franchise right now, it would be great to see it shine with more appearances from characters such as this one.
Who knows? Maybe Ahsoka season 2 could pave the way for a Darth Vader TV series. It goes without saying that fans would tune into that one!
