Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is one of the first shows to wrap up its season-long run in 2025, and that's mainly because its run began in 2024. The Disney Plus series premiered back in early December, running through the holidays with its eight-episode first season, and to say that it has been a joy to watch would be an understatement.
The show offers up something quite different from the Star Wars franchise, spotlighting a number of younger heroes in what can really only be described as a heartwarming coming-of-age story. But that story has had some twists, as Wim, Fern, Neel, and KB discovered that their apparent protector, Jod Na Nawood, was actually a renowned pirate who sought to claim the treasure of their home planet At Attin.
Having returned the kids home to their home planet, he has now confronted their parents in the hopes of gaining the fortune he wants for himself. With the season finale upon us, all that is left to ask is: Does he get it?
At Attin falls (for a moment)
Although the previous episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew implied that Jod was about to threaten the parents of Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel, he simply used the lightsaber in a dramatic fashion to introduce himself as the "Jedi Emissary". He also told everyone that the kids were in serious trouble and that they needed to be held by their parents and a droid in their quarters, under tight supervision. The exception was Fern, who along with her mother Fara, would accompany him to the Supervisor.
When he reached the top of the tower, however, he discovered that The Supervisor was simply a droid. That droid was able to prove that he was lying about who he was, and in that moment Fern finally revealed the truth about Jod's history as a pirate and his true motivations. The revelations set the droids on him, but Jod used his lightsaber to destroy the Supervisor, powering down all of the droids and cutting the power to At Attin.
Fara agrees to show him how to allow his ship to pass safely through the barrier. There is a level that will destroy the barrier altogether, but Fara pleads with him not to use it as it would leave the planet without protection. Jod doesn't pull it, agreeing that he wants the planet to remain protected - especially if he plans on living there.
But things don't play out as peacefully as he suggests they will as his pirate ship enters At Attin's atmosphere and immediately starts shooting anything below. But the power outage allows Wim to tell his father everything, free from droid supervision. The pair are joined by Neel and KB as they set out to save Fern, her mother, and At Attin from the invasion. To do that, KB decides to take the ship that started it all back out of At Attin's atmosphere to contact help. The only issue was that they needed to get the power back on to free the ship from its restraints.
Saving the day
It all came down to this: Jod had Fern and her mother imprisoned in the Supervisor's Tower when Wim arrived in the elevator. He came out with his hands up, surrendering as he told Jod that he had called for help. But it was all a rouse to distract Jod so that his father could turn the power back on - something that both did successfully. This allowed KB to fly outside the barrier and contact Kh'ymm, who quickly agreed to send the X-Wing starfighters to save At Attin from the pirates.
Jod was as impressed as he was frustrated by the kids' tenacity, but he wasn't willing to let that stop him. The barrier was still up, which meant that any help that did arrive wouldn't be able to get in. And when KB's ship was attacked by the pirates and seemingly went down, even he was angry; he didn't want anyone to die. A part of that was genuine, while the other part needed them all to be his workers and carry on "The Great Work". But after a struggle, Wim's father and Fern's mother were able to pull the level that destroyed barrier, allowing the good guys in.
Jod's army was quickly disposed of and all he could do was watch. He surrendered pretty quickly, especially since Wim and Fern managed to use his lightsaber against him. However, when they went to track down KB, he looked at them and smiled as he watched the wreckage of his own ship come crashing out of the sky.
Wim and Fern reunited with Neel and they found KB in the wreckage of their ship, alive and well. 33 was also still functional as he carried his head in his hand. The team had survived the greatest of adventures and now they are ready for whatever comes next. But Wim, he was still captivated by the stars, looking up at the X-Wing fighters that were saving the day with wonder.
More adventures await this young man.
Is Jod dead?
The biggest question surrounding the season finale of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew of course revolves around Jod. Jude Law's mysterious character was defeated by the kids that he initially seemed to develop a bond with. They were a thorn in his side, a means to an end, and yet some damn good adversaries. The irony of that wasn't lost on him, as the slight smirk implies that he's almost proud of Wim for stepping up and growing into the Jedi he longed to be. Almost.
The smirk also implies that it isn't the end for him. Although his army of pirates had been defeated, and his infamously large ship had crash-landed into At Attin, with the survivors no doubt being taken into custody, Jod likely has more adventures ahead of him too. He wasn't taken down by anybody, he wasn't apprehended by anybody, he wasn't even with anybody; everybody knows that is a recipe for escape.
Of course, these are questions that a potential season 2 of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew could answer, for Jod's story is clearly not over. It's less clear if that will happen, but showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford are hopeful that it could happen. Irrespective if it does or not, there are rumors of Jude Law reprising the role in a Jod-centric spinoff. And honestly, that sounds amazing too.
The finale of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew intentionally left Jod's fate ambiguous. We simply don't know what happened to him, but we do know that this likely isn't the last we will see of Jude Law's nefarious pirate.
