The duo that so many people like to call Mando and Yoda are back! Yes, Din Djarin and his best friend Grogu are set to return to our lives in the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will mark the pair's first ever appearance at the movies. In doing so, they bring the Star Wars franchise back to movie theaters for the first time in seven years.

Jon Favreau and Lucasfilm opted to give the characters a movie instead of a fourth season of Disney Plus series The Mandalorian. However, if this is your first introduction to the characters, you might want to brush up on your lore of that galaxy so far, far away. And, with that in mind, here are all of the Star Wars shows you should watch before heading out to movie theaters to see this one.

The Mandalorian seasons 1 - 2

Episodes: All 16
Where to stream: Disney Plus

The very first chapter in the Disney Plus Star Wars era, The Mandalorian debuted on the streamer back in 2019 with a first season so good that it's widely considered one of Disney Plus' very best. Starring Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin himself, this is where the journey of his unlikely bond with Grogu began and, well, let's just say it was under very interesting circumstances. A lone bounty hunter charged with transporting "the child" to a fate nobody deserves, the two formed a friendship and never looked back.

Of course, The Mandalorian is essential viewing for the upcoming movie, so you can bet that it should be watched before you go to the cinema to see the next installment. Those first two seasons tell a pretty straightforward, easy-to-understand story that made The Mandalorian accessible to even non-Star Wars fans.

The Book of Boba Fett

Episodes: 5 - 7 (mandatory), All seven (optional)
Where to stream: Disney Plus

In the midst of the Disney Plus Star Wars era, the franchise decided to spotlight the franchise's most famous Mandalorian (prior to Din Djarin's arrival) by giving Boba Fett his own spinoff series. The show, led by Temeura Morrison and Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand, saw Boba attempt to leave bounty hunting behind, forming a new kind of family as Mos Espa's leader. But challenges from the questionable characters in the galaxy make that more difficult than it should be.

The Book of Boba Fett carries on from the character's reintroduction in The Mandalorian and it starts as a pretty straightforward standalone story. However, halfway through it begins carrying on storylines from The Mandalorian itself, making the fifth, sixth, and seventh episodes essential viewing for fans hoping to keep up with Din Djarin and Grogu's story.

The Mandalorian season 3

Episodes: All eight
Where to stream: Disney Plus

Having made a surprise supporting appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, Mando and Grogu returned for their third solo adventure. The Mandalorian season 3 picks up shortly after the events of the spinoff series, and it kicks off a more personal journey for Din Djarin, tied directly to his previous appearance in Boba Fett.

Having learned that hs is now an Apostate to his people, he seeks out the Mines of Mandalore in a bid to bathe in the Living Waters and redeem himself, but this opens up a whole world of stories as the Star Wars show dives into the origins of the Mandalorians themselves and what the creed means to characters like Din and Bo-Katan.

This expansion of that world allowed for larger-scale events like The Mandalorian and Grogu to happen. Originally designed as a fourth season, the feature film is now the next installment of their story, and we can't wait to see our favorite duo back on our screens.

BONUS: Ahsoka season 1

Although the legendary Star Wars character Ahsoka Tano isn't expected to appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu, she is important to the corner of that galaxy so far, far away that Dave Filoni has crafted. With that in mind, while you're on your Mandalorian watch, it might be worth setting aside some time to check out the character's own spinoff series.

Rosario Dawson actually made her first long-awaited appearance as the Jedi padawan in The Mandalorian so she's incredibly important to the overall Mando-Verse's arc. Her show might not directly impact the events of The Mandalorian and Grogu, but it's a great watch that deserves your attention.

And if you can't fit it in before you go and see the movie, it's a great "next chapter" for viewing afterwards. After all, there's going to be a long wait for Ahsoka season 2, so you've got some time to spare!
