Could a Stranger Things star be playing the Green Goblin in the MCU? They’re certainly open to it and would be great in the role!
Fans of the MCU are eagerly awaiting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth solo film with Tom Holland as the web-slinging hero. Among the confirmed cast is Sadie Sink of Stranger Things fame, although her exact role remains under wraps.
Sink’s co-star Joe Keery, who played fan favorite Steve Harrington on Things, talked to ScreenRant and it seems he has an interest in being part of the Spider-Man franchise. More importantly, he seems to be in intrigued by the idea of playing Harry Osborn, who would become a new Green Goblin.
Keery noted the various fan edits and artwork of himself in the role has made it "fun to entertain” the idea, but noted, “the right things happen at the right time.”
"I guess you just keep your eyes open, and you read a ton and just hope for the best, I guess. [But] sure. Come on. Where's the script? Let's go."
Keery would be following Sink as well as David Harbour (Jim Hopper), who played Red Guardian in Black Widow and Thunderbolts* and Joseph Quinn (Eddie Munson), who got to play the Human Torch in Fantastic Four: First Steps. He sure seems eager for the role, and fans would love it too!

Joe Keery would be a great Harry Osborn
Most associate the Green Goblin with Norman Osborn, long one of Spider-Man’s greatest enemies. The part was played by Willem Dafoe in the 2002 Spider-Man film, with the actor reprising the role in 2021’s No Way Home.
Harry was played in the Sam Raimi films by James Franco, with the third film having him follow in his father’s footsteps as the Goblin. 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had Dane DeHaan as Harry, who mutated into the Goblin. Both used the same idea of Harry as Peter's best friend who becomes his enemy after the death of his father at Spider-Man's hands.
Keery could fit the role well with Harry as a typical rich kid who bonds with Peter at college. It can show that the MCU Norman is different from the one in the Raimi films or even a newer version. A Norman who’s actually a decent guy, while Harry is the villain, would be a nice turn on the mythos. Thanks to his work on Things, Keery could easily handle the special effects work and some good chemistry with Holland.
Fans have also pushed Keery for MCU roles like a young Cyclops, Nova or even Ghost Rider. Yet he seems more drawn to Spider-Man and casting him in the role of Peter’s pal turned enemy would fit his acting style as a supposed jerk with layers.
This may be just fan-casting for now, but Keery appears to be pushing to become part of the MCU in some way, so perhaps this happens after all!
