The Boys season 5 episode 9 is not happening (but there's some good news)

It’s disappointing that Prime Video’s The Boys is over, but there is more on the way from this franchise. There’s also another way to enjoy the characters from the show.

When it was announced that The Boys would get a TV series adaptation, I was shocked. The comic book series is full of bloody and extreme violence, obscene mature scenes, and the raunchiest language you’ll read. Despite all of that, I knew that the characters were deep, there was an underrated story about different kinds of love, and that showrunner Eric Kripke (Supernatural) would do the project justice. I was right.

The first notable part in the series was that the important moments from the comics remained, but they were toned down. Some of the scenes worked in the comics at the time (2006), but not for a TV show in 2019. Even for a mature streaming service like Prime Video. Seven years later, The Boys completed its fifth and final season with a finale that still has the internet discussing it a week later. If we’re being honest, it will be talked about all summer, too.

Yes, unfortunately The Boys season 5 consisted of just eight episodes, meaning that this is the official end of the story. There is no ninth episode and there is no sixth season planned. That means that the truly game-changing series finale is the last ever episode. Sadly, this is the last you’ll see of Hughie, the man they call Mother’s Milk, Kimiko, Frenchie, and Butcher in the present.

Luckily, there’s still more to look forward to, because this isn’t the end of The Boys universe on Prime Video. Plus, there’s another way to enjoy the characters.

Vought Rising is coming to Prime Video in 2027

Even though The Boys has come to an end, the franchise cotninues with its multiple spinoffs. The first of those, Vought Rising, is coming to screens next year. Better yet, the first trailer was released soon after The Boys' season finale, ensuring that fans were aware that there was more from the Vought Cinematic Universe on the horizon.

It was a smart move since the main Boys story just concluded, as it allowed Prime Video to capitalize on the hype, while reminding viewers that we hadn't seen the last of multiple characters from the show - including Jensen Ackles' beloved Soldier Boy. It also confirmed when the prequel series' story would take place, what the main characters looked like, and some of the storylines that would be involved.

The trailer also shows that this is going to be a tough watch, as Vought Rising is expected to explore this universe’s version of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, as Vought will be testing Compound V (or V1). And, like the Black Women who helped send the first man into space, it appears that a Black Woman also found the noise frequency that hurts supes.

Vought Rising is scheduled to be released in 2027, with Jensen Ackles (Soldier Boy), Mason Dye (Bombsight), and Aya Cash (Clara Vought/Liberty, and later Stormfront) all returning.

Now is the perfect time to read The Boys Comics

This writer will always take the opportunity to discuss The Boys comic book. Yes, it’s a product of its time and has a lot of moments that aren't something that many people would be comfortable reading, but there is no denying the gripping story that Garth Ennis put together that ultimately served as the starting point for Prime Video's critically-acclaimed show. It highlights how awful the people are and serves as a chilling reminder that not everybody would use super-powers for good.

Lastly, reading the source material is a good way to see what came before the show. You’ll get to see what was changed and decide whether or not these changes were a good idea. As someone who’s read the comic book a bunch, reading (or rereading) the series and thinking about the comic book is totally worth it. Especially since the TV program is over.
