This is the way! The Mandalorian and his little green friend made a larger-than-life return to our lives this year with their theatrical debut. Yes, The Mandalorian and Grogu was released in theaters during Memorial Day weekend, bringing the Star Wars franchise back to the silver screen for the first time in seven years.
A sequel to the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian, it saw Din Djarin and the child known the world over as "Baby Yoda" travel across that galaxy so far, far away in search of Rotta the Hut, but they very quickly encounter some new dangers along the way. And now, after months of generating stories about its plot, box office performance, and placement in Dave Filoni's Mando-Verse, the film is set to bring Mando and Grogu home to Disney Plus as it finally makes its presence felt on the streaming service.

The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives on Disney Plus in the US on Wednesday, September 2, at 3:00 a.m. ET, 12:00 a.m. PT, 1:00 a.m. MT, and 2:00 a.m. CT. Its West Coast premiere time will be at midnight, which therefore translates to the later times in every other time zone, with fans in the East Coast specifically having to wait up until the wee hours of the morning to tune in.
As you likely entirely away after watching the original Mandalorian series itself, the film's launch will be a global event as Disney Plus is available in many areas around the world. The morning release might catch you a little off-guard if you have been regularly watching the Star Wars and / or Marvel shows on Disney Plus. Since 2023, Disney Plus has indeed been unveiling new episodes of shows such as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka during primetime evening hours. However, movies tend to come out in the original, universally-accepted "wee hours of the morning" timeslot in the US that, yes, once also belonged to the streamer's live-action shows.
What The Mandalorian and Grogu is about and who stars in it
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is a standalone Star Wars movie that also happens to function as the fourth installment in Mando and Grogu's story. It takes place after the third season of Disney Plus series The Mandalorian and sees Din Djarin take on missions from the New Republic - allowing him to maintain his reputation as a bounty hunter without having to do nefarious things anymore.
Therefore, it's pretty easy for viewers who haven't watched the original series to tune into as it functions as a solo adventure for the pair on a specific mission, while also feeling like an epic new installment in the pair's long-running story. And this particular adventure sees the fan-favorite duo make their way across the galaxy to rescue Rotta the Hut but - as always with the Star Wars franchise - nothing is as it seems.
Pedro Pascal once again leads the charge in the film as The Mandalorian himself, Din Djarin, while he's also accompanied by Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder in bringing him to life. Jeremy Allen White joins the Star Wars universe as the voice of Rotta the Hut and Johnny Coyne brings back Lord Janu Coin from his previous Mandalorian appearance. Martin Scorsese makes an unlikely cameo as Ardennian fry cook Hugo Durant while Sigourney Weaver reminds us just how epic she is in space, playing Ward - a former Rebels Alliance pilot who now serves as a colonel and leader of the New Republic's Adelphi Rangers.
While The Mandalorian and Grogu did receive mixed reviews, it's widely regarded as an entertaining two-hour return to the Star Wars franchise - which was long overdue on the big screen after the Skywalker Saga's conclusion seven years ago. It did somewhat underperform at the box office but it's expected to tell a very different story on Disney Plus given that both of its titular characters exploded onto the scene via that very streaming service back in 2019.
The long-term future of the Star Wars franchise is relatively unclear but there are plenty of titles to look forward to from it in the short-term (including the next installment of the Mando-Verse!). Regardless of where it goes next, we are sure that we will be seeing more of Mando and Grogu. In the meantime, we will have this awesome adventure to appreciate on streaming forever!
