Marvel fans all around the world are on edge with excitement. It's the feeling that only the run-up to an Avengers movie can create, as rumors run rampant and fandoms are overrun with speculation, as Marvel Cinematic Universe experts analyze and discuss who could appear in the upcoming phenomenon.
What makes this particular Avengers movie all the more unpredictable is that Avengers: Doomsday is the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. That means we're expecting appearances from all around the Marvel multiverse, including movies that don't take place within the MCU's world. Heck, we now know that the majority of the original X-Men cast will be appearing in the film, and that's just scratching the surface as Marvel Studios has teased more major names will join the production in the near-future.
Now, a new player has entered the conversations, one that is all too familiar to the MCU and the world that it exists within. With a recent appearance in the UK, fans are now convinced that this star will return for an unexpected role in the upcoming movie.
Tessa Thompson spotted in the UK, likely suggesting an Avengers: Doomsday appearance
Tessa Thompson recently took to her Instagram story to celebrate Pedro Pascal on his 50th birthday. The MCU star posted a photo of Pascal partying with what looks to be Thompson herself on his shoulders. Naturally, fans have begun to speculate whether this confirms she will be in Avengers: Doomsday. How? We're glad you asked.
Avengers: Doomsday is currently filming in the UK, meaning that is currently where Pascal is. He is one of the 27 actors confirmed for the major MCU phenomenon as he is set to reprise his role as Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, after debuting the role in this summer's The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But could Thompson join him in the production?
Thompson is an MCU regular at this point, portraying Valkyrie in the Marvel Studios franchise. She made her debut in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, reprising the role in 2019's Avengers: Endgame and 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder (as well as voicing the character in two episodes of animated series What If...?). She most recently appeared in a cameo in 2023's The Marvels and will likely return in the definitely-happening-but-yet-to-be-officially-confirmed Thor 5. But her name wasn't among the 27 actors confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, even though her Thor franchise co-star Chris Hemsworth was the first name confirmed for the film.
Honestly, Valkyrie would be a pleasant surprise in the film if Thompson does end up appearing. It likely wouldn't be a major role but given that Thor will be involved, New Asgard may be too - and as we know that Val is King of New Asgard, her presence would not just be welcome, but necessary.
Both Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. have teased the possibility of more unannounced MCU stars appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, so Tessa Thompson could very well be one of them. With major names like Brie Larson, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, and Samuel L. Jackson all absent from the casting announcement, we're all ready for some surprises when the movie arrives in theaters. Needless to say that an appearance from Thompson would be a welcome one.
