It's no secret that Andrew Garfield's time as Spider-Man came to an end sooner than expected. Just when it seemed the wall-crawler could find its footing in a movie that wasn't weighed down by an overabundance of characters or a shallow storyline focusing on Peter's parents, the franchise was rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Tom Holland in the lead. Unfortunately, that means fans might never get to see the Amazing Spider-Man grow old, go to college, or bond with a parasitic alien that will heavily alter his behavior for the worse.
After Gwen's death, it seemed like the perfect time for the symbiote to make its big debut and make Peter's life even more complicated. Furthermore, an alternate scene in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 showcased the symbiote being trapped in a container inside Oscorp. All pieces were falling into place for Andrew Garfield's Peter to sport the black suit on the big screen, but that ultimately wasn't the case. However, thanks to a piece of fan art, we finally have a look at what could've been.
Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man sports the symbiote suit in stunning fan art
3D artist Agro posted a render of the Amazing Spider-Man model wearing the black suit, and the results are nothing short of menacing. The costume's design shares some similarities with the one seen in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, as it contains a visible web pattern that's not usually present in most adaptations. However, it is also faithful to its comic book counterpart, as it has a distorted white spider logo on the chest that's larger than usual, along with the iconic black color palette.

After the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, there was an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the return of Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker. Multiple campaigns were launched to petition for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to get made, and give the symbiote arc a small chance of materializing on the big screen. While some fans held on to hope to this very date, Andrew Garfield recently confirmed that a third entry in his stand-alone saga won't ever be made. However, that's not to say he won't come back in other Marvel projects.
It has been reported that Andrew will have a role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, though it wasn't specified whether he would simply voice a character or have a live-action appearance. But given how chaotic and filled with surprises the Spider-Verse movies have been, there could be a slight chance that Andrew's character finally gets to wear the symbiote suit. As if that wasn't enough, there's another big project where fans could see him next.
Rumor has it that the Amazing Spider-Man will be back for the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, and wouldn't you know it, but it was under the original Secret Wars comic book event that Peter first came into contact with the symbiote. Granted, such a storyline will likely be saved for Tom Holland's iteration of the friendly neighborhood hero. However, wouldn't it be heartbreakingly great if Andrew's Peter finally had the chance to fight an alien, even if the creature is bonded to his multiversal friend? Perhaps a piece of the symbiote could attach to him in the midst of all the chaos, and it would be up to Tobey Maguire to save the day.
There's still a bit of room for audiences to see "Peter 3" wear the symbiote suit on the big screen. However, we wouldn't hold our breath on it. For the time being, fan art is the closest we are to living that dream, and it makes us wish The Amazing Spider-Man 3 could someday be made.
