There are a lot of elements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming titles that fans are excited for. From the return of Robert Downey Jr. as villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to Krysten Ritter's comeback as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, there are a lot of thrilling events to look forward to. But it goes without saying that one thing at the top of the list is the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU.

The Multiverse Saga has featured nods and references to Marvel's Mightiest Mutants throughout its titles, but it has also featured cameos and returns - both of which made it clear that the X-Men were on their way. From Patrick Stewart's return as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Kelsey Grammer's cameo as Beast in The Marvels to Hugh Jackman's full-blown return as Logan in Deadpool and Wolverine, the mutants from the Fox movie franchise are making their presence felt in the MCU.

Before the MCU's new class of X-Men make their presence felt, however, we are going to see most of the classic X-Men again. And they might boast some very comic-accurate looks for the first time ever. Now, this new update has offered fans an insight into just how comic-accurate we are talking.

The X-Men suits in Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly be a blend of two beloved adaptations

It's been heavily-speculated that the X-Men will don their classic comic-accurate looks for the first time in a live-action movie when they return to the screen in Avengers: Doomsday and now a new update for prolific, reliable Marvel insider Alex Perez has revealed that the suits will take inspiration from two of the most popular versions of the X-Men.

Hosting his monthly Q&A with fans via The Cosmic Circus, Perez was asked if he had any exciting updates to share about Avengers: Doomsday and / or Avengers: Secret Wars. He replied with praise for the costume department, saying that they're "really bringing it with some of these looks". Perez then specifically highlighted the X-Men, saying that they "look like a blend between Astonishing X-Men and X-Men 97".

Astonishing X-Men is one of the mutants' most iconic comic book storylines and it really perfected the team's modern day looks. While Wolverine's iconic yellow and blue suit is synonymous with the character now, this series' design is considered among the most well-known adaptations of it (much of Hugh Jackman's suit in Deadpool and Wolverine took inspiration from it), so to hear that Avengers: Doomsday might borrow from it for the rest of the X-Men's suits is particularly exciting.

Furthermore, the X-Men '97 comparison is even more exciting. A revival of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, the Disney Plus series features the team sporting their most iconic looks. As Marvel Studios produced this series, it might not be too surprising to learn that they will potentially be recreating these looks for the characters' live-action appearances in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but it is exactly what fans have been longing for - and the thought of seeing a live-action version of the team that resemble the X-Men '97 iteration is just too awesome. We could be about to see something extremely special.

As awesome as the original X-Men movies are, they have become somewhat infamous for refusing to let the characters wear their traditional superhero uniforms (hey, it was a different time). Marvel Studios have since rectified that for Wolverine with Hugh Jackman's return in Deadpool and Wolverine, so we've all been excited about the prospect of seeing them do it again with more of the original X-Men stars.

Although not every cast member from the X-Men movies are confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios has confirmed that Ian McKellen's Magneto, Patrick Stewart's Professor X, James Marsden's Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, Kelsey Grammer's Beast, and Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler will all appear in the upcoming movie.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
