Rumor: Dylan O’Brien Already Cast As Spider-Man?
By Nick Tylwalk
This comes with the requisite large grain of salt since it’s from the wild and woolly world of Reddit. Yet it’s still a rumor worth discussing simply because Dylan O’Brien was said to be on Sony and Marvel’s wishlist a few weeks ago, and because the redditor who sparked it was willing to double down and claim the actor had signed for the part.

So here goes: redditleaker23456 posted yesterday that O’Brien had wowed Sony and Amy Pascal with his audition for the role of Peter Parker, and that the part was likely to be his. He or she later updated the initial post saying that O’Brien accepted the offer. The redditor’s source is said to be someone close to Sony, so take that for what it’s worth.
If true, it could be the big announcement that Robert Downey Jr. teased for later in the week. Since Downey’s Iron Man is a big part of Captain America: Civil War, and the new Spider-Man is expected to make his first appearance there, there’s a logical connection to be made.
Of course, that’s only if a string of assumptions is correct: that redditleaker23456 is right, that Spidey is actually going to be in Civil War, that RDJ was in the loop on the casting process a few days ago and that Marvel and Sony are ready to reveal the new web-slinger. That’s kind of like hitting a parlay bet at the sportsbook, so while I wouldn’t wager the house on it, but if it all comes to pass, you can at least say you kind of, sort of knew all along.
