Marvel’s Female Heroes Unite In A-Force Presents
By Nick Tylwalk
You’ve probably heard that there’s an all-female version of the Avengers that is headed our way during Secret Wars called A-Force. That’s one way to read up on all of Marvel’s most popular female heroes, but the company wants to give new readers another way to get into their adventures, which is why they’ve come up with something called A-Force Presents.

What is that, exactly? It’s a bi-monthly collection that will start this September with the first issues of Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Thor, She-Hulk, Black Widow and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Each volume will also have six issues, though it’s not clear whether Marvel will keep going with these same series or incorporate some of the other female-led books that will no doubt spring up in the aftermath of Secret Wars. Since it’s starting after Marvel’s big 2015 event, it’s possible it can even include the regular A-Force comic at some point.
Marvel says A-Force Presents is intended to give young adult readers an easy way to jump into these heroines’ stories, and the collections will be on sale in bookstores as well as comic shops — also Amazon, where you can already pre-order the first volume for $14.99.
“In a world where virtually everyone has heard of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and The Avengers, Marvel’s female Super Heroes have stepped into the spotlight, spurred on by a rapidly growing base of Marvel fans who just happen to be women,” Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said to Teen Vogue. “Titles like Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Spider-Gwen, Thor, Silk and the recently announced A-Force each offer a distinct and compelling reflection of what we call ‘the world outside your window.’ A-Force Presents collects all of these critically-acclaimed entry points into the Marvel Universe and proves, once and for all, just how powerful the women of Marvel truly can be.”
With six issues for the price of just less than four, A-Force Presents also works pretty well from a value perspective. Look for it wherever you get your comics or regular, non-illustrated books this September for $14.99.
