First Look: Teen Heroes Unite In Runaways #1
By Nick Tylwalk
In real life, we don’t endorse running away. From school, from work, whatever. However, when you find out your parents are members of a secret cabal of super villains, it’s kind of justified. Things are a little different on the Secret Wars Battleworld, but the teen heroes of one domain are going to find out there’s still a need for Runaways.

It’s a bit of a different team you’ll be seeing in Runaways #1, as Mollie Hayes, Jubilee, Bucky Barnes(!), Amadeus Cho, Skaar, Cloak and Dagger join a few new faces in a story by writer Noelle Stevenson (of Lumberjanes fame) and artist Sanford Greene. This time it’s not evil parents that are the motivation for teen heroes to unite out of necessity, but an evil teacher. And who can’t relate to that?
(Sidebar: just kidding, all of my teachers, ever. Love all of you.)
Here’s Marvel’s pitch for this Secret Wars tie-in:
"Classes, exams, detention. Seems like a normal school, right? Except your headmaster is actually a diabolical super villain, and the final exam is a brutal match to the death! Only one solution: RUN AWAY!"
See? We told you it might be justified under certain circumstances. Runaways #1 won’t be hard to find when it hits stores and digital on June 17, but we’ve got a first look at three pages by Greene right now.
