Ben Affleck Teams With Geoff Johns For Solo Batman Film

Back in June, we originally reported on a rumor that Ben Affleck would be directing and starring in a Batman solo film with Chris Terrio — screenwriter for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the future Justice League two-parter film — penning the script.  Today, we have confirmation that Affleck would not only be starring and taking creative control of the project, but also co-writing the story and screenplay with DC luminary Geoff Johns.  The film is unnamed, but early rumors pointed to a working title of “The Batman.”

The news was first brought to light by Mike Fleming of Deadline:

"My studio sources tell me that Affleck and Johns are well in synch and have more than found their rhythm. In fact, they are likely to turn in a script before the end of the summer, prior to Affleck going off to direct Live By Night in November. Affleck postponed that pic to star in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. The Batman movie would shoot after he finishes Live By Night, and the plot would reflect the Batman character that emerges after Batman V Superman andJustice League, the latter of which comes out November 17, 2017."

There’s no word yet on a release date or how it would fit in the schedule of WB/DC’s new cinematic universe.  However, we may just find out this Saturday at Comic-Con 2015.  With Ben Affleck and other Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cast members confirmed to be in attendance and 90 minutes reserved just for WB/DC in the famed Hall H, it would be no surprise if they surprised fans with this news.

The first introduction of Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight in this new film universe will be in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which has a United States release date of March 25, 2016.  It will be directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from a story by David Goyer and Zack Snyder, and will star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves, Holly Hunter as a United States Senator, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone / Cyborg, and Callan Mulvey, Scoot McNairy, and Jena Malone in unspecified roles.
