Danai Gurira has finished her work on Black Panther!
Marvel’s Black Panther is currently in the meat of its shooting schedule. The film was last reported to be shooting in South Korea, and filming is supposed to last at least another month and a half. However, it appears that one cast member has completed her work on the movie.
Actress Danai Gurira took to Twitter to announce that she had wrapped on the film. In the tweet, she also expressed her love for the cast and crew:
This is somewhat surprising, as Gurira’s character, Okoye is expected to have a sizable role in the film. But, it is definitely possible that the role still is large, and her scenes were just shot earlier for scheduling reasons. As many people know, Gurira also stars in The Walking Dead.

Regardless of the size of the role, it will be very exciting to see Gurira in the movie. She has described her character as a tough, military woman, and has compared the physicality of the part to her role on The Walking Dead.
The character of Okoye first appeared in the Black Panther comics back in 1998. She was introduced as a member of Wakanda’s elite guard, the Dora Milaje. Originally one of T’Challa’s (Black Panther) “wives-in-training,” she later became one of his most trusted allies.

It will be interesting to see how Okoye is adapted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios always maintains the core of the characters, but usually finds a few ways to differentiate them from their comic book counterparts.
Black Panther will arrive in theaters on February 16, 2018.
