Marvel Legacy: Marvel Comics Reboot Will Bring Back Classic Characters
By Steve Lam
Marvel Comics will reboot with Marvel Legacy which will bring back classic characters and original numbering for all issues.
Marvel has been killing it on the silver screen. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now one of the most lucrative franchises in the history of film. And this trend will only continue with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is set to break some amazing records. However, the same can’t be said for Marvel Comics.
DC has the opposite problem. You have the DC Extended Universe which has had a very rocky start. Man of Steel (2013) had a lukewarm reception, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) was panned by critics and DC fans. However, last year’s DC Comics’ Rebirth initiative (the not-a-reboot relaunch) has become a hit with readers across all issues.

It’s too bad Marvel Comics can’t boast the same success about their comics as they do their movies. That may very well change with the recent announcement that the publisher plans to reboot every issue with a new initiative—Marvel Legacy. If DC did do anything right, it was with their comics—and Marvel is definitely following suit.
CBR.com (present during Marvel’s announcement at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo) broke the news that Marvel Legacy will “launch a new initiative that showcases its most popular characters in new storylines.” The reboot will also return long-running issues back to their original numbering.
The reboot will be inaugurated with the 50-page one-shot Marvel Legacy #1, which will be written by Jason Aaron with art by Esad Ribic. Like DC Comics, Marvel Comics is also trying to bring back a sense of optimism, hope, and heroism—something that seems to be lost with modern comics trying to be edgy.
Marvel Legacy #1 will feature a four-panet foldout illustrated by famed artist Joe Quesada. It’ll also serve as an introduction for all readers—new and old.

If Marvel Legacy works out, the overall Marvel brand would become an unstoppable behemoth. Now, if only DC would reboot their movies and also bring back a sense of optimism and hope to the silver screen, comic fans would be winning all around.
Marvel Legacy #1, a 50-page one-shot, will be released sometime in Fall 2017.
