Kevin Feige says MCU films and TV shows could eventually crossover

Kevin Feige believes that the MCU movies and TV shows could link up at some point.

Since Agents of SHIELD debuted back in 2013, fans have wondered if the show would ever directly connect with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. These questions only increased with the release of the Marvel Netflix series. Many people, including Marvel actor Anthony Mackie, don’t think that it will ever happen. However, Kevin Feige has somewhat different thoughts.

While speaking with io9, Feige was asked if he thought a character appearing in a television show would bar them from showing up in a film. He stated that this is definitely not the case, and even went on to say that the movies and TV shows will connect or crossover eventually:

"“Not necessarily. The future’s a long time. So, the truth is, I don’t really know, but there are a lot of TV shows being made, and hopefully we’ll continue to make a lot of movies. At some point, there’s going to be a crossover. Crossover, repetition, or something.”"

This is sure to please a lot fans. Feige’s comments sound hopeful, but it also appears that, at this point, nothing is set in stone.

Having the MCU films sync up with the TV shows is possible, but it would take a considerable amount of work and collaboration. People within Marvel Studios—like writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely—have talked about the difficulty in keeping up with the fast production cycle of television shows. The studio could definitely make the connections happen, but it would put even more work on their already massive load.

All in all, it’s probably safe to assume that any kind of crossover won’t happen between the two mediums anytime soon. Still, Feige’s statements do fill us with hope that the Avengers might cross paths with the Defenders one day.
