The third season of Daredevil was praised by one of the show’s stars, Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk.

Daredevil remains the only Marvel-Netflix show to officially air two seasons. Although Jessica Jones already received its release date for season 2, nearly three years in the making. However, Matt Murdock, the lawyer by day, hero by night, will return for a third season, which started production earlier this year.

For season 3, we know actor Vincent D’Onofrio will return as Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk. He played a prominent role in season 1 and appeared in season 2, going head-to-head with Frank “The Punisher” Castle.

While speaking with Collider (h/t CBR.com), D’Onofrio praised the early work on season 3. He addressed the show having a new showrunner, Erik Oleson, which will be “hard to top” Steven DeKnight’s work from season 1. However, the 58-year-old remained positive, noting the “cool scenes” he’s show and how “different” it feels.

"“It’s hard to top the first season, with Steven DeKnight’s writing, but Erik Oleson (the new showrunner) is a very good writer. I’ve shot some pretty cool scenes, so far. It’s different, but it’s very Fisk. It’s still very emotional. The character is evolving. His whole deal is based on emotion, so we’re taking him down that role further.”"

What could these scenes relate to? Well, given the season finale of The Defenders, it’s potentially related to the classic “Born Again” storyline from the Daredevil comic books. Kingpin learns Murdock’s secret identity and uses it to ruin his life. If so, this could be a groundbreaking season of the show, which uses its season 1 roots (Fisk) to rival the red-suited hero and reignite their rivalry.

A season 3 release date remains to be seen, as The Punisher only passed in mid-November and Jessica Jones won’t arrive until the spring of 2018. With more Luke Cage and Iron Fist on the way, that could mean a lengthy wait, before Daredevil hits Netflix. Might that mean a late 2018 or early 2019 arrival?

Either way, we’re bound to see D’Onofrio’s powerful Kingpin character return to the Marvel-Netflix world. How will he be used? Could it be in the “Born Again” storyline that everyone thinks will arise from the Defenders finale?
