Jake Gyllenhaal (37) recently shut the rumors down that he would be playing Batman in Matt Reeves film. To us, however, that means there’s still a chance. At the time the rumors surfaced, Ben Affleck was still thought to be all in. Gyllenhaal was doing the right thing, by not openly admitting to wanting to take another man’s job.

Now, it’s been official which means Gyllenhaal is free to take the mantle of the Dark Knight. There’s no questioning his acting ability and star power he’d bring along with him. Currently, Gyllenhaal is set to play Mysterio in the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man Homecoming. We hope that Matt Reeves and Walter Hamada won’t give up on him — we sure haven’t.

We wouldn’t mind seeing Gyllenhaal in a psychological tale of emotional struggle like in Batman: A Death in the Family. Giving Gyllenhaal and hardheaded badass teen in the form of Jason Todd would be great. Watching Batman try to make up for the mistakes he made with Dick being so detached. Only to realize Jason is far from his prodigal son. However, the turnaround would be great until the end. Where he’s holding Jason’s lifeless body would be even more memorable than the comics.
