Captain Marvel could open even larger than projected, based on a new box office tracking report.

With Captain Marvel less than two weeks from release, the anticipation is steadily growing for the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On top of early, positive reactions from critics, box office tracking has been predicting a large opening weekend. And now, a new report is projecting an even larger debut.

According to Forbes, Captain Marvel could have a domestic opening of $150 million. The trade attributes this number to a combination of strong buzz and advance ticket sales. Fandango recently reported that the film had become the second fastest pre-selling superhero origin film. This puts it ahead of Deadpool, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman and behind fellow Marvel Studios film Black Panther.

In terms of advance tickets sales for MCU films, the movie is third, sitting behind only Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. Forbes also notes that public awareness of the film is at an all-time high, despite the property being relatively unknown.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Although Captain Marvel seems poised for success, the film has faced a few hurdles, the main one being the presence of internet trolls. Following comments made by Brie Larson in which she expressed her desire for more diverse press days, many misinterpreted the comments and took offense. This resulted in a number of users dropping early, negative reviews of the film on the aggregation site,  Rotten Tomatoes. This has since been remedied, as the site has removed the reviews is currently working to restructure its user reaction system.

Regardless of the negativity its faced, it appears Marvel Studios could have another box office hit on its hands. And it could just be the start of a big year, as the studio also has another little film called Avengers: Endgame hitting the big screen in April. But before that, everyone will be watching how Captain Marvel performs when it hits theaters on March 8th.
