Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo would jump at the chance to tackle Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: Endgame will mark the end of Joe and Anthony Russo’s seven-year careers with Marvel Studios. Despite this, the two have expressed interest in returning to the company in the future, with their dream being to direct an adaptation of Secret Wars. Interestingly, there is one character from that story arc that they would love to work with: Doctor Doom.

Syfy Wire recently sat down with the brothers, where they revealed that they would relish the opportunity to use Victor Von Doom. Joe Russo enjoys the Shakespearean aspects of the character and believes he could be fleshed out in interesting ways:

"“…Doctor Doom, I just love the sort of Shakespearean mythology behind him as a character, and he’s another fascinating character that, you know, he’s had different interpretations in the books. So I think you could shade him in really complex ways.”"

Doctor Doom is a character that has garnered a lot of big screen interest as of late. Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo and Marvel’s Legion, was developing a solo film centered on the character for 20th Century Fox and had even turned in a screenplay. But work on the project has stalled (and likely halted completely) following the Fox-Disney merger.

While Hawley’s project may be done, there’s definitely still hope for the character in the MCU. The Fantastic Four will surely make their way to the massive franchise at some point, which leaves the door open for Doom’s introduction. And as Joe Russo mentioned, there are a number of possible directions to take the character in.

It’s highly unlikely that the Russos would be the ones to introduce Doom in the MCU, as that will likely happen in a Fantastic Four movie. However, there’s always the chance Marvel Studios does manage to lure the two back with a Secret Wars film. And there’s no denying that a complex character like Doctor Doom, in the Russos’ care, could be an imposing force on the big screen.
