Blake Lively as Emma Frost
It’s a shame how they treated Emma Frost in the X-Men movie universe. In the first trilogy, she wasn’t used at all. Singer cast her aside like some supporting character.
After years of nothingness, we got what we wanted in X-Men: First Class, but she died. It was disappointing, considering how well January Jones portrayed her. Despite how she was written in the comics, she was the forgotten member of the X-Men in the sole movie she was part of.
Emma is renowned for her beauty, intellect, and psychic ability in the comics. Another missing aspect of her past was her relationship with Cyclops. However, Emma is more than eye candy.
While she has some devious ways, she has good in her. As depicted accurately in the movies, she was a member of the Hellfire Club. But what we didn’t see was her turning over a new leaf and becoming a valued member of the X-Men.
As one of the more powerful psychics in the comics, Emma deserves better. Emma Frost seems like a character who would benefit from some star power. Blake Lively has that in spades.
Over the years, she’s nailed every role she had. Movies like Savages, Age of Adeline Shallows, and A Simple Favor proved she’s a leading lady. Expect nothing less from the upcoming revenge flick, Rhythm Section.
If Disney wants to distance themselves from Fox’s X-Men, putting her in the right era helps. She needs to be part of the X-Men that features Professor X’s original team. Too much of her story is tied to them.
