Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige teases a new class of Avengers for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios announced plenty of projects for their Phase Four slate during their San Diego Comic-Con panel. Notably absent, however, was a new installment in the Avengers franchise. But that doesn’t mean the studio isn’t already thinking about the next big screen iteration of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

MTV News caught up with Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige after the Hall H panel and asked him about future plans for the Avengers. While Feige wouldn’t get too specific, he did confirm that Marvel knows what the new line-up will look like. And it sounds like it’s going to be a mixture of the old and new:

"“…it will be a very different team than we’ve seen before. That’s what Endgame was all about. It will be a very different incarnation of the team with some people you’ve already met and some people you haven’t met yet.”"

Avengers: Endgame was not only the end of an era in the MCU, but it also marked a turning point for the actual Avengers team. The film ended with two founding members being killed off and the others seemingly retiring from the team. As a result, the stage has been set for a new roster to take the reins in their absence. This just leaves one question — who will be the heroes to step up in their place?

As Feige mentioned, the team will be partially comprised of characters audiences have already been introduced to. This could likely include names like Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Sam Wilson, who is now Captain America.

The most exciting element of a new Avengers team is the prospect of entirely new faces joining the group. The MCU has the potential to introduce a large number of characters, so it’s hard to pinpoint who exactly could join up. The recently confirmed Shang-Chi and Blade could be candidates. Even Captain Britain or Ms. Marvel could find spots on the team. Regardless, the Avengers are about to get a serious facelift.
