An Obi-Wan series will finally be going into production in 2020

After years of turmoil, Star Wars will finally get the Obi-Wan series that has been long in gestation.
During the Disney Plus panel at D23, Ewan McGregor came on stage, and it was announced that the long-rumored Obi-Wan series will begin shooting next year and that all the scripts have been written. This comes off the back of reports that Ewan McGregor was going to be reprising his role for an Obi-Wan series barely over a week ago.
According to StarWars.com, the series will be set eight years after Revenge of the Sith. Rumors have been swirling around, regarding an Obi-Wan film for years but, after the disappoint of Solo: A Star Wars Story at the box office, it was reported that other solo films would be put on hold.
Now though, we finally have confirmation directly from Lucasfilm that the Obi-Wan series is actually happening. And it’s going into production sooner than one would think, which is interesting, as the first reports happening only recently. Then again, Lucasfilm has done such a good job in the past of keeping their projects under wraps that it’s not all that surprising it’s going into production so soon, especially with the fanbase clamoring for the show.

Not much else is known about the series other than the information already mentioned though. The only name attached to the series right now is Ewan McGregor, and there is no information regarding who will behind the scenes on the show, including no news on a showrunner or directors. The project has also yet to be given an official title.
With the scripts for the series already finished, it’s obvious that there has been a showrunner working on the show for a while now, but it has yet to be announced who that person is. But really, the draw of this project is Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan, so pretty much any other name attached to the series can only benefit it.
This wasn’t the only big news for Star Wars at the Disney Plus panel though, as the first trailer for The Mandalorian also dropped during the panel, giving fans the first look at the highly anticipated show. It was also announced that season seven of The Clone Wars will be released on Disney+ is February 2020.
