Spider-Man: Predicting which MCU movie Peter Parker will be swinging into next
By Rotem Rusak
Spider-Man is back in action for Marvel Studios—and he’ll be appearing in his own film and one more… But the question is, which one?
As Spider-Man swings back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the chief questions on everyone’s mind is, where is he heading? The newly drawn up contract between Marvel and Sony stipulates Peter Parker can return for his own move and “one future Marvel Studios film” but gives neither a timeline nor an expiration date on when this film would have to be. Cue speculation about where our favorite hero looking out for the little guy might land.
Spider-Man in Black Panther 2
There is a whole slate of confirmed Phase Four Marvel movies that Spider-Man could join. But of the usual suspects, there’s not a clear, natural fit for the web-slinger, with the more NYC-based heroes, Captain America and of course Iron Man, out of commission after Avengers: Endgame. Peter has already traveled Far From Home once though, so might he be ready for a little bit more adventuring to Wakanda in Black Panther 2, perhaps?
One team-up that never came to fruition but was highly anticipated in fan communities, was between Black Panther’s Shuri and Tony Stark. While that meet-cute is no longer on the table, a crossing of paths between Iron Man’s protege and the Wakandan princess might be the next best thing. Shuri’s genius and penchant for tinkering would almost certainly remind Peter of his lost mentor. And given that both Shuri and Peter are of roughly the same age, rub shoulders with middle-aged superheroes that only understand half of what they’re saying, have above-average intellect (although no one can match Shuri) and both were erased by Thanos’s snap and then dropped back into a whole new world, the duo could have a lot to discuss. Not to mention, the amount of delightful trouble they could get up to together.
Although the world might not be ready, as Wakanda continues to spread its influence across the globe, why not to New York next?

The Next Generation Avengers
It seems like only a matter of time before a new cadre of Avengers is united and team up for a big movie bringing together all of the Phase Four characters. Nothing has been officially announced, but this is Marvel’s bread and butter, after all and, if it is in the plans, it would be one worth saving Spidey for.
After all, the Avengers is a loose title in the comics, featuring an ever-changing set of characters and heroes and speaking more to the overall spirit of the team than the specifics of who is a part of it. Tony Stark christened Peter an Avenger and, with a new Captain America in the wings, and Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, Black Panther, and more, at play, it seems like the next Avengers movie, in whatever form it takes, would be a natural fit for the young hero.
Spider-Man in Captain Marvel 2
Although again, there has been no announcement, Captain Marvel 2 is all but a certainty at this point, given the success of the first film.
Carol was in Avengers: Endgame, but she didn’t appear too much on screen. Notably, however, she did save Tony Stark from space and meet one Peter Parker, who was also not on screen very much during the movie. Marvel is famous for subtle set-ups and, perhaps, taking the time to set-up a face-to-face between the two characters has more meaning than first surmised. Seeing as Peter is one mentor short and a lover of all things science, he might be eager to learn a thing or two from the indomitable Captain and her incredible knowledge of the universe.
Marvel may have revealed a lot about what’s to come in the future of the MCU, but there are always many more plans waiting in the wings. But wherever he falls, at least one thing is for sure, Peter Parker is back in action.
