Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) opened a Pandora’s box for spinoffs, and we can think of a few members who deserve a solo movie. Spoilers ahead.

There’s no limit to DC Comics’ source material, especially with Walter Hamada’s DCEU just hitting its stride. On a $97 million budget, Birds of Prey has amassed $145 million worldwide at the box office. It’s yet another critically acclaimed film under Hamada’s DC movie universe.

This is one of a few reasons why we need a sequel.  Plus, Birds of Prey has opened the door for spinoffs, including the often-rumored Gotham City Sirens (which needs to happen). And with Harley Quinn taking Cassandra under her wing, well… that’s a comedy just waiting to happen. Those are just a few examples; other members deserve solo movies set in the DCEU or miniseries on HBO Max.

6. Huntress

The origin story of one Helena Bertinelli — The Crossbow Killer AKA Huntress — played out in Birds of Prey. We saw a glimpse into her past, from her childhood leading to her becoming a killer. Her motivation was revenge and, as DC Comics fans will tell you, the way in which her backstory was depicted in Birds of Prey was comic accurate. This wasn’t the first time fans saw a live-action Huntress though, with the most recent depiction being played by Jessica De Gouw on Arrow.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, however, brought something vastly different than what we’ve seen in the past. She was amazing in her portrayal of a socially awkward Helena — and we need to see more of that. A prequel would be great in which we can see Helena’s revenge tour play out over the course of a two-hour, action-packed (and John Wick-inspired) blood bath.

Or we could see Helena break off from the newly formed Birds of Prey and embark on a mission to undo her family’s past misdeeds. This could lead to her going leaving Gotham and taking her talents to New York City or even Sicily perhaps. Either way, more Mary Elizabeth Winstead as an awkward, murderous vigilante, please.
