Every major detail we learned about The Batman at DC FanDome
At DC FanDome, The Batman director Matt Reeves discussed what audiences can expect from the movie.
At DC FanDome, The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves spoke to host Aisha Tyler a little bit about the movie (before revealing the debut of its teaser trailer) and he gave away some information as to what to expect from the first standalone outing of The Dark Knight within the DC Extended Universe.
For those who are not aware, Reeves is developing a spin-off series under his 6th and Idaho label designed to expand the world of Gotham established in the same continuity as the motion picture. In terms of the setting, which Reeves has touched upon – that this writer will explain a bit later – the series will explore the city of Gotham and its corruption.
As consumers of geek culture most likely know, The Batman will follow Robert Pattinson’s iteration of the World’s Greatest Detective in his second year of fighting crime and most of the rogues gallery from the comics such as Carmine Falcone, The Riddler, The Penguin and Catwoman have not become the infamous criminals and masterminds they are destined to become. Even Batman, who has become Gotham’s protector, is still more of an urban myth when we first meet him.

At the center of this tale is a murder, which pits Bruce Wayne aka Batman against The Riddler as he tries to solve the case in a film that will test our Caped Crusader, maybe even forcing him to rethink his strategy in fighting crime and become a better hero.
Reeves’ approach to Gotham is more unique than previous films (such as the Gothic allegory of the Tim Burton films or the inner city and grounded take from the Christopher Nolan films). Since part of it was filmed in London and Liverpool in the UK, the architecture has a more Victorian look and each part of Reeves’ Gotham are different aspects of the city’s setting.
