WandaVision fan theories: S.W.O.R.D. is having trouble containing Scarlet Witch
There have been reports that S.W.O.R.D., the counterterrorism, and intelligence agency that debuted in Astonishing X-Men vol. 3 #6 will be involved in the WandaVision series. There have also been set photos that could possibly link Randall park’s Jimmy Woo and Terroyah parries’ grown-up Monica Rambeau to the clandestine outfit. But the question that remains is what are they doing in the Disney+ original series?
One theory suggests that S.W.O.R.D. has been put in charge of keeping the Scarlet Witch from hurting the public. Ever since Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, she hasn’t had the best track record, and after the events of Avengers: Endgame, it is no secret she has probably become a bit unhinged losing so much over time.
The Avenger could have snapped and been put into containment, or this could have just been a precautionary measure to keep her from doing real damage. But given the fact that she now realizes the extent of her powers, keeping her in check may require some unorthodox measures, including putting her in a Mysterio-esque B.A.R.F. prison simulation or recruiting a supernatural being of their own to keep Wanda under control.
The entire ordeal with Vision could just be a distraction to keep her from escaping, as knowing her love for the character would be great bait to keep her locked in a trap. All of this seems like it’s something S.H.I.E.L.D. would definitely do, and the fact that S.W.O.R.D is the space-based counterpart to the covert agency, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they borrowed from their playbook.
