Peacemaker adds Orange Is The New Black star in major role
Award-winning actress/singer Danielle Brooks, best known for Orange Is The New Black, has joined the cast of DC’s Peacemaker series for HBO Max.
Ahead of the DCEU‘s soft reboot flick The Suicide Squad – which is written and directed by James Gunn for an Aug. 6, 2021 release – it was announced that John Cena’s Peacemaker is set to star in his very own series of the same name for HBO Max. Now, following news that a former Arrowverse character Vigilante will be incorporated into the series – Deadline reports that Orange Is the New Black’s Danielle Brooks has joined the cast.
The Grammy and three-time Screen Actors Guild award-winner will be playing the character of Leota Adebayo in the spin-off series – which is also helmed by Gunn who serves as creator/executive producer/writer of the eight-episode show alongside fellow EP Peter Safran. Her character will reportedly have some connection with Cena’s titular character.
Brooks is, of course, best known for her role as Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson in the Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black. She played a major role in the second, fifth and the final seventh season. After making her Broadway debut in the 2015 revival of the theater production The Color Purple, she nabbed a Tony Award nomination in 2016 for her performance.

On the small-screen, Brooks most recently had a recurring role in the animated sitcom Close Enough and the anthology series Social Distance. Equally proficient in comedic as well as dramatic roles, Brooks lent her voice to the animated feature Angry Birds for Sony and starred in the films Sadie, Clemency and The Day Shall Come. Her other TV credits include Netflix’s dramedy Master of None and HBO’s High Maintenance and Girls.
Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Chris Conrad, Jennifer Holland and Robert Patrick. James Gunn is writing and directing the series. Gunn, Cena and Peter Safran are executive producers. Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company will be producing the series in association with Warner Bros. Television. It will premiere on HBO Max early next year.
