Is Dane DeHaan returning for Spider-Man 3?

Dane DeHaan played Harry Osborn/Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with rumours circulating that the actor would be returning for the MCU’s Spider-Man 3.

The rumors circulating around Dane DeHaan’s return to the Green Goblin character stemmed from reports that DeHaan’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 co-star Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro but that he would be doing it in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, while there had been rumors circulating that DeHaan could be joining the cast too, the actor flat out denied those rumors during a press conference interview with Radio Times, adding that there was “no truth to those rumors” and that he didn’t “even know how that would be pulled off.”

He did open up about how much he’d love the opportunity to be in another film like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, commenting:

"“I would certainly love to make some kind of movie like that again. I like making superhero movies or in that kind of world and I’m sure I’ll find myself in that world again… And I have no idea what they’re doing with the Spider-Man movies now, but I don’t really understand a world in which that would be possible.”"

Is Dane Dehaan or the Green Goblin in Spider-Man 3?

While DeHaan is showing an eagerness to join a superhero film once again, it seems as though the actor will not be making an appearance in Spider-Man 3.

It could certainly be a way of DeHaan trying to sway people away from the prospect before a potential announcement, as we know with the prospect of a multiverse-related storyline that anything is possible. However, the actor seemed determined that he was not involved in the project, which begs the question as to whether he will once again play Harry Osborn – who he did a terrific job at playing alongside Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker.

This version of Osborn suffered from a disease that killed his father, which eventually results in him becoming the Green Goblin. DeHaan’s character is renowned for being the individual that killed Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone), which had a profound effect on Peter’s life.

Spider-Man 3 will be swinging into theaters in December, and currently stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx and Andrew Garfield, with more cast to still be confirmed for the untitled sequel.
