Barely a full month into the year of 2021 and the Arrowverse has already received some great news about how it will be moving forward.

It has been revealed that The CW has given early renewals to 12 of its current scripted shows, including several Arrowverse shows which haven’t even premiered their current season as of yet. Those renewals include Batwoman, which will now have a third season, The Flash, which will have an eighth season, Legends of Tomorrow, which will have a seventh season, and Riverdale, which will have a sixth season.

Both The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow have yet to premiere their seventh and sixth seasons, respectively.

Included in the renewals announcement is the reveal that Superman & Lois has also been given the order for two additional episodes.

Why did The CW renew its Arrowverse shows so soon?

These renewals seem to indicate that The CW is currently playing it safe given the current climate of the world, which would really be hard to blame them for. The network currently has several series in development, but it seems that they will be banking on their proven successes for the time being. This isn’t all that surprising though as reports as far back as last May indicated that the cast of The Flash were in talks for as far as season 9 of the series.

More from Arrowverse

It’s not like The CW isn’t working on developing more shows though as the crew of Stargirl is rumored to be at work on its third season and a Wonder Girl series is in development as well. There more than likely won’t be any official announcement regarding these, or any other shows at The CW for that matter, until well into 2021 though, so The CW is hedging its bets right now on keeping its proven successes around for at least one season longer.

Too bad they couldn’t have branched out a little bit by greenlighting Green Arrow and the Canaries.
