Jessica Jones is rumored to be returning in She-Hulk, but how could that happen?

Recent rumors have suggested that Krysten Ritter could potentially reprise her role as Jessica Jones (from the Netflix series) in Marvel’s upcoming She-Hulk. The rumor has come about from insider Daniel Richtman – who has revealed this could potentially happen on the Disney+ series.

The rights to both Jessica Jones and The Punisher (who starred in the last two of the Marvel Netflix series) have since reverted back to Marvel. Daredevil’s rights have already returned back to Marvel and it is presumed the rights to Luke Cage and Iron Fist did the same.

In regards to the Man Without Fear, Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox, is believed to have been filming scenes for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is expected to contain a number of cameos from other Marvel stars and it is not yet known if Cox will be appearing as Daredevil or his lawyer-by-day alter-ego Matt Murdock (or at all as this has yet to be officially confirmed).

But what about Jessica Jones? While she was rumored to appear in Spider-Man 3 at one point, it seems the more likely option is indeed She-Hulk. But how could that happen?

What would be the driving force for Jessica Jones to encounter She-Hulk in the Disney+ series?

There are not a lot of details to rely on in regards to the She-Hulk Disney+ series as of yet. We do know some of the talent involved and some casting is still underway while shooting is expected to begin sometime soon in Atlanta, GA. The show is expected to be set in New York as Jennifer Walters is indeed a New York City lawyer. Of course, that setting would make her likely to run into Jessica Jones, right?

More from Disney Plus

The last we saw of Jessica, her entire life has been rocked to the core by highly intelligent, overachieving psychopath Gregory Sallinger who targeted those who have not earned their achievements – especially enhanced individuals of whom Sallinger had a low opinion of. As a result, Jessica was about to hang up the hero life for good as she handed Malcolm Ducasse the keys to her detective agency and prepared to leave New York. Although at the last minute Jessica decided against it and stayed in New York, embracing her sense of duty in becoming a fully-fledged superhero.

Presumably, by the time She-Hulk will pick up, it would have been years since Jessica stayed to continue her duty (provided she survived the “Blip”). She may be a completely different person with a new life, perhaps with a family of her own and maybe she’ll be struggling to balance that life with her duties as a crime-fighter. Or maybe something may come her way to threaten Jessica’s happiness and she could reach out to Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk. Or perhaps she could act as a guide to Jennifer, teaching her how to balance crime-fighting with upholding the law in an official capacity. Then again, maybe Jennifer Walters could rely on Jessica Jones for detective work in nabbing a potential suspect for a case.

Help from an unexpected ally

We are not sure who Jennifer may be primarily up against in the She-Hulk series. The Abomination will appear which has Tim Roth reprising his role from Louis Letterier’s The Incredible Hulk but there have been plenty of rumors and ideas floating around about who the show’s main villain could be.

We know Jennifer will be battling crime both on the streets and in the courtoom, so again, perhaps Jessica could assist She-Hulk in retrieving some information about these cases she is trying to win while also being a crime-fighting partner.

A collision in the courtroom

On other hand, what if it’s Jessica who needs Jennifer’s help? Perhaps she has found herself in a situation in which she requires legal representation and the Jade Giantess is who she will ultimately turn to for help in the courtroom.

This would not been the first time Jessica has been on the wrong side of the law, and it may not be the last. The result of emotional trauma she has faced over time has shaped her into a socially withdrawn, distant and at times unstable super-powered individual. Jessica has yet to use a healthy coping mechanism to fight injustice in a productive manner.

If this were to be the case, Jessica’s snarky and detached behavior may put Jennifer off in defending her client but then again she is dedicated to her job. However, this could also end up leading to the pair coming to blows and result in something of a temporary fight between them (be it a physical one or a legal one).

Of course, this is all just speculation right now, but the idea of Jessica Jones appearing in She-Hulk is a very exciting one indeed.

Marvel’s She-Hulk stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth and Ginger Gonzaga. Jessica Gao is serving as showrunner, while Dana Schwartz is writing the series with Kat Coiro and Anu Valia directing. Gao, Coiro and Kevin Feige are all credited as executive producers on She-Hulk.

Marvel Studios is producing the series with filming set to begin soon in Atlanta, GA and the show is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
