Tom Holland opens up about the exciting and ambitious Spider-Man: No Way Home story.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the most anticipated movies of 2021 and Tom Holland is very excited about the Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Collider recently asked the star about the status of his contract with Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios (during an interview about his film Cherry), as fans wondered if he would be in any future standalone films past No Way Home.

In that same interview, however, Holland was asked about the film’s script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and he had some exciting things to say.

Spider-Man: No Way Home’s script is ‘ambitious’ and ‘exciting’

Holland opened up a little bit about what fans can expect from the Jon Watts-directed movie. When asked about his reaction to the screenplay of Spider-Man: No Way Home, he revealed that it was always in flux – something that isn’t unheard of for huge movies like No Way Home. He also made some exciting reveals about it, commenting:

"“Well, unfortunately, I had to read it in sections because there is an element of figuring it out as we go on this one, as there is with most of these big movies, but it is fantastic. It’s easily the most ambitious standalone superhero film I’ve even been a part of. It’s incredibly exciting, it’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s anything that you’d want in a superhero film.”"

So what can be taken from this? Well, it’s clear that the script for Spider-Man: No Way Home is ambitious. That much we already knew because some of the casting announcements and rumors of familiar villains returning suggest that this film is, without question, one of the most ambitious superhero movies ever made – even for a shared universe that loves ambitiousness as much as the MCU.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

The creative process was seemingly taken one step at a time in order to ensure that adjustments could be made if and when necessary and that everything huge about this mysterious film could come together as they went along.

Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, Jamie Foxx, Tony Revolori, Alfred Molina and Benedict Cumberbatch but that cast could actually be significantly bigger – something we will find out when the film is released. Jon Watts is directing from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producing for Marvel Studios in association with Pascal Pictures. Sony Pictures Releasing is set to distribute. Spider-Man: No Way Home will swing into theatres on Dec. 17, 2021.
