X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine may be hiding the ending in plain sight from moments in past comic books.

Wolverine is this writer’s favorite comic book character. When he was young, Logan’s gruff behavior, cynicism, and take-no-prisoners ways caught his attention. As he got older, though, he started to notice just how deep Logan’s character is.

For all of his loner talk, he’s very team oriented. Wolverine will do anything for the people he loves, even if it means hurting himself physically and emotionally. When Krakoa was established, things changed even more. His love and desire to help seems to have gotten even more intense. This is evident in the two Logan centric X-Men stories X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine.

One story sent Logan into the past and the other brought him into the present as something quite different. While they’re both following two paths, they both seem to be linked. For example, this writer thinks that the things Logan experienced in the past (in X Lives of Wolverine) is the reason he looks like Warlock after being birthed from a Krakoan egg older than Krakoa itself.

That’s not the only thing. Here are some other ideas to contemplate while you’re reading this series.

Wolverine and time travel

When it comes to time travel, there’s always repercussions. Among them are seeing how the actions of the people involved affect the future. X Lives of Wolverine is a prime examples of this. While Arkady Rossovich, a.k.a. Omega Red was a whale (or Moby-Red as this writer is calling him), one of Xavier’s ancestors said that he went to the north to find something new. After seeing Logan and Arkady, he said that he had. Maybe this is what actually started the family’s love or infatuation with science and evolution. We may find out that Logan is more crucial to Xavier forming the X-Men than we know.

Next, there’s the battle between Wolverine, Arkady (in Itsu’s body), and Romulus. Logan beat Romulus in an extreme way. This wasn’t the Logan that Romulus had manipulated for decades. No, this Logan was a veteran with over a hundred years of fighting experience. After Logan sent Romulus packing, he mentioned that this could be why the Winter Soldier was sent after Itsu later. Was he taking Daken Romulus’ revenge for disobeying him? This writer believes so. He also thinks that this will come into play within a year.

Omega Red is up to something

After Mikhail Rasputin told Omega Red that he was messed with and lied to by the X-Men, he was furious. After finding this out, Arkady went to Russia to help Mikhail with his plan to change history.  As straightforward as that seems, this doesn’t seem like the entire tale. Could he be working with one of the X-Men.

During X Lives of Wolverine No. 2, Logan said that Arkady’s first mission was a test. What was that test? Was it to get close to Mikhail to get the Cerebro Sword back or to confirm that it’s actually with Mikhail? In fact, Logan may not even know the entire story. The less he knows the more authentic things will look. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s been kept in the dark by Charles Xavier. However, it’s not something Jean Grey would ever do.

X of Deaths Wolverine and Moira

Another problem with time travel is that things get very unpredictable. You never know if things are going to happen in the way they are supposed to after a little interference. Something as simple as moving a chair could cause Spider-Man to become a mutant or Batman to become owner of a Narwhal-Man. In this case, Jonathan Hickman may have shown us what was going on back in Powers of X.

In Powers of X No. 6, Logan and Moira were the last two mutants on Earth. And since the Omega Sentinel mentioned traveling from another dimension (see Inferno No. 4 for that) maybe the Wolverine we’re seeing is time traveling from the Powers of X reality.

If Logan wanted to kill Moira, she’d be dead already, especially when you consider that he has the Technarch inside of him. He sees things that machines see on top of his own incredible senses. Logan also didn’t seem too torn up about Mystique being killed. Then again, not many people would.

Destiny may want Mystique dead

After Destiny returned from the dead (Inferno No. 2), she hated what Mystique had become. All of the horrible things she had seen her wife do were things that she just couldn’t accept. It took her a while before she could even speak to her. With that in mind, Destiny may still not be over what Mystique has become.

In looking at the Marvel Comics, Destiny can be just as evil as Mystique. The difference, however, is that she respects the futures that she sees. Mystique, on the other hand, is arrogant enough to believe she can change that. If Mystique’s actions go too far, Destiny may choose the future of mutant life and Krakoa over her.

It wouldn’t be too far fetched to believe that Destiny would string Mystique along and lie to to her to put be put in a position of power.
