We're nearing the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga, which means fans are in for no shortage of shocking surprises. So far, very few projects have tied into an overarching multiversal narrative, but those that did became instant fan favorites. We'll never forget the feeling of watching three Peter Parker variants share the screen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Furthermore, that fight sequence between Blade, Elektra, Gambit, Deadpool, X-23, and Wolverine against Cassandra Nova's forces will always be exhilarating. But as iconic as these moments have been, they might pale in comparison to what's to come.
Avengers: Doomsday will mark the beginning of the end of the current MCU era, and it will do so in a big way. Big multiversal characters such as the X-Men are confirmed to appear in the movie, while rumors suggest that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will have a big role to play, too. Furthermore, fans have long theorized that veterans such as Nicholas Cage's Ghost Rider or Ben Affleck's Daredevil might also join the fight against Doom. However, few suspected that we'd see a multiversal variant of one specific hero, but such a storyline might come to fruition.
A second Black Panther will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday
As reported by renowned insider Daniel Richtman, Avengers: Doomsday will feature two versions of Black Panther. The movie's official casting already revealed that Letitia Wright is set to reprise her role as Shuri—Wakanda's current protector. So, the question then becomes: Who will be the other version of the iconic hero?

Leaked Avengers: Doomsday concept art had already unveiled that Marvel was toying with the idea of featuring a multiversal variant of Black Panther, who appears to be an alternate T'Challa. The reveal led fans to theorize that the superhero giant will permanently recast the role in the future, rather than simply including a one-and-done cameo in Earth's Mightiest Heroes' upcoming adventure. After the tragic and unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman, many questions were left up in the air about T'Challa's future in the MCU, and we could soon have a definite answer.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the MCU will undergo a soft reboot after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. While many current heroes will remain unfazed by the reset, it has been revealed that certain characters will be recast, allowing us to see new versions of Captain America, Iron Man, or, in this case, T'Challa.
It's important to remember that Black Panther 3 is officially in the works at Marvel, so there's a chance that this movie will follow the new multiversal iteration of the hero. However, it's also worth pointing out that director Ryan Coogler's comments in the official Black Panther podcast suggested that the role of T'Challa won't be recast due to the impact Chadwick Boseman had. That being said, there's even more evidence to suggest the character could be back in some capacity.
Back in June 2025, Damson Idris made an appearance on the Today Show to promote the F1 movie. During the interview, the beloved actor was asked if he had any conversations to play a new Black Panther, to which he responded with a very cryptic "yes, no" instead of simply denying the rumors. Furthermore, he then confirmed that if the opportunity arose, he would definitely play the iconic hero. While not a clear confirmation by any means, it certainly raised some eyebrows.
Thanks to the multiverse, anything is possible in the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. is set to portray the role of Doctor Doom after being Iron Man, Chris Evans became the Human Torch once again in Deadpool & Wolverine, and Tobey Maguire suited up as Spider-Man even when that seemed like an impossibility. So, the idea of watching a second Black Panther in Avengers: Doomsday is not only realistic, but it seems to be almost a given due to all the evidence. On the bright side, we're just a little over a year from getting an official answer.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
