Din Djarin and the creature known the world over as Baby Yoda have returned to us. The Mandalorian and Grogu brings the world of Disney Plus' biggest success story to the silver screen where Pedro Pascal's beloved bounty hunter and his little green friend cross paths with the likes of Sigourney Weaver and Jabba The Hutt's son. Hey, the galaxy so far, far away is full of possibilities.
This is the first Star Wars film since The Mandalorian launched back in 2019 so that means it's also the first to feature the franchise's small screen characters. The question on many people's minds, however, is whether or not any of the other familiar faces from the series join them. That is particularly true for Bo-Katan Kyze, who ended up becoming a major part of the show's third season.
Why Bo-Katan doesn't appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu
Unfortunately, Bo-Katan does not appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Fans feared as much heading into it as star Katee Sackhoff was not featured in the film's first looks and having seen the film, we can confirm that she doesn't make an appearance. In fact, neither she nor the other Mandalorians that Din and Grogu were working with in the third season were even mentioned.
On one hand, it's not surprising as The Mandalorian and Grogu is very much positioned as a standalone story that families can dive into during its theatrical run without needing the knowledge of the three seasons of the Disney Plus show (Mando repeatedly reminds us of things that TV fans would know, such as the fact that he works for the New Republic and Grogu doesn't talk). Nevertheless, it is disappointing considering how important Bo-Katan is to the Mandalorian lore - which was also mostly absent from the film ("This is the way" is said only once).

When we last saw Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian season 3, she and the other Mandalorians had successfully retaken Mandalore, defeating Moff Gideon in the process. After years of being in exile and underground, the Mandalorians had their home world back. And Bo-Katan had led them to victory, alongside Din Djarin and Grogu.
The season 3 finale of the series also sees Mando and Grogu settle down in Navarro on a plot of land that Greef Karga gifted them. Having adopted Grogu as his own son, the pair had to leave Mandalore to go on their oewn quests together as part of the Mandalorian Creed. To do that, Din Djarin signed up to the New Republic as an independent contractor. And that explains why he has a new cast of characters around him in the movie.
The character will return to Star Wars at some point
It wasn't intended to act as a series finale as a fourth season was in the works at the time (before Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni pivoted to making a feature film instead) but it works well as a final episode for the show if that fourth season doesn't happen. It also set the stage for more standalone adventures from that specific corner of the galaxy. It just would have been nice if Bo-Katan was involved in them.

As for whether we will see the character again. that's where the good news comes in. In a 2025 interview with Screen Rant, Sackhoff confirmed that "You will see her again in some form," adding: "That's all you need to know." For now, it's just unclear what title that return could take place in.
There is reportedly a Mando-Verse crossover movie in the works designed to wrap up Dave Filoni's small screen Star Wars escapades, with the casts of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and even Skeleton Crew expected to cross paths. But reports say that this film has been placed on hold as Disney and Lucasfilm figure out what the silver screen future of Star Wars looks like.
If it does happen, however, that is likely where Sackhoff's beloved character would make her comeback. Let's hope that this is the case.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is now playing in theaters.
