There is simply no refuting the fact that Avengers: Doomsday is on course to becoming the biggest movie of 2026. Sure, it has stiff competition from another Marvel movie in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but right now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe spectacle looks set to captivate audiences around the world - which isn't surprising at all considering the Avengers' track record.
This one promises to feature even more surprises than ever before, with the cast members of Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and X-Men (yes, the X-Men!) all set to appear, along with a host of Marvel veterans. The biggest Marvel veteran of all will return in a new role, however, as Robert Downey Jr. will lead the ensemble as Doctor Doom - the film's primary villain.
But another MCU veteran will be back too, and it sounds like he's already getting into character as the film kicks off production.
Chris Hemsworth is reportedly back in costume as Thor on the set of Avengers: Doomsday
It sounds like the God of Thunder is back in action. According to industry scooper UnBoxPHD, Chris Hemsworth has been spotted on the set of Avengers: Doomsday in costume as Thor. That's not that surprising considering that production on the upcoming movie has kicked off in the UK, with Hemsworth taking part, but it has sent the internet into meltdown as the hunt for set photos begin. Is he wearing the same suit he wore in the previous installment (Thor: Love and Thunder) or is it a new suit altogether? Good questions.
This particular user has also shared set photos and videos from DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (including the first look at Milly Alcock suited up as the Girl of Steel), so fans are taking the report as reliable. And if it is, then it may well only be a matter of time until set photos surface from the MCU movie surface. Of course, Marvel is more protective than any other studio in Hollywood, so there is a good chance that we won't get a new look at Hemsworth suited up as Thor until something official is released (especially if production remains on a closed set), but if they do end up shooting some outdoor scenes in public places, a new look at the God of Thunder could come along at some point.

Thor has been in the headlines recently as a new report suggests that Marvel plans on moving ahead with a fifth and final Thor movie to give the character an epic send-off. Over the course of the past year, a number of rumors have suggested that the studio wants to make amends with audiences after the mixed response to Thor: Love and Thunder highlighted that the solo franchise was in need of a new direction (more akin to the original Thor movie).
Hemsworth himself said that he hopes to get the chance to make Thor 5 as he felt that he had become a parody of himself in the fourth movie. Reports claim that a potential fifth movie would focus on the idea of Valhalla and function as a mythical war epic, dropping a lot of the in-your-face humor that fans didn't buy into in the fourth film.
But before all that, the God of Thunder will reunite with the Avengers to battle Doctor Doom. Although it was clear that he would be involved, Hemsworth's name was the first announced in Marvel Studios' official cast unveiling for Avengers: Doomsday. How he will return to the MCU remains to be seen, but it's clear that - with the threat of Doctor Doom looming - the Avengers need an all-powerful god as their ally once more. Thankfully, Thor won't be too far away.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on May 1, 2026.
