"Daredevil will return in season 2". Those are the last words we see on-screen after the credits roll on Daredevil: Born Again's finale. But while it's exciting to know that Matt Murdock still has another Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance under his belt, we know things will be radically different from this point onwards. If you're all caught up in the latest Disney Plus series, then you know how and why New York City has dark days ahead of it. But if you have yet to catch up on Matt's latest adventure, then be warned: there will be spoilers ahead for the first season of Daredevil: Born Again.
Still here? Great, then you're aware that The Kingpin is back, and he's more violent and corrupt than ever. He enacted Martial Law, blackmailed the City Counsel to ensure they approve his "Safer Streets Initiative", and will use the Red Hook port to launder as much money as he wants. To make matters worse, his Anti-Vigilantees task force is slowly growing in numbers, which means Matt alone won't be able to stop the supervillain. Wilson is, by all means, untouchable at this point and with this level of power. So how will Matt hope to put up a fight? Well, the series said it better: with an army, of course.
The Defenders could make their return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
If you've read the Devil's Reign comic book storyline (in which the Kingpin becomes Mayor and outlaws all vigilantes), then you know a lot of heroes came together to fight against his new order. While some of those heroes, such as Iron Man or Steve Rogers' Captain America, can't appear in the next season of Born Again because they're out of the picture by this point, there are a few ideal candidates that can definitely steal the spotlight, given Matt's past. Could we be looking at a potential Defenders reunion? After all, Matt already knows all of those heroes and even teamed up with them to take down The Hand. So, why not save the day together once again?
Back in March, a report claimed that season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again would be all about Matt recruiting the Defenders from the Netflix series for an eventual confrontation with the Kingpin and his forces. Furthermore, it was also revealed that Echo would be a part of this new team, and while that alone is exciting, the possibilities don't end there. Considering that Wilson Fisk made his MCU debut in the Hawkeye series, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume that both Kate Bishop and Clint Barton could be involved in the story as well. But who else could show up?
Of course, everyone wants to see Spidey and Daredevil team up, and the finale of Born Again sets up a scenario where that seems like a very real possibility. Unfortunately, the "crossover" seems all the more unlikely given that Sony holds the live-action rights to the wall-crawler, while Daredevil is under the Disney umbrella. However, it's worth mentioning that even if Spidey is absent throughout the entirety of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, there's still a chance that he crosses paths with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen in the future.

It was previously reported that Spider-Man 5 would be an adaptation of Devil's Reign, which would all but confirm Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk's involvement. Furthermore, it would also indicate that the Kingpin's reign will last for more than just two TV seasons and that Marvel is properly looking to set up yet another major event throughout multiple projects — one where street-level heroes steal all the spotlight.
Another obvious candidate to fight against the Kingpin's new order is the Punisher. Frank Castle is currently being held captive by the supervillain, but the post-credit scene of the finale teased his eventual escape. With that in mind, it's only a matter of time before he tries to settle an account, and what better way to do it than by joining forces once again with his frienemy, Matt? Besides, we can't also forget that he'll have his own Disney Plus Special Presentation in 2026, which will likely tie into the events of Born Again season 2.
The finale of the latest Marvel show clearly established the Kingpin as a true force to be reckoned with. He'll stop at nothing to shape New York in his image, and a big group of heroes will be needed to take him down. On the bright side, we don't have a very long wait ahead of us to find out just who exactly will be a part of Daredevil's army moving forward.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will be released in 2026.
