The first look at Milly Alcock suited up as Supergirl has surfaced. Earlier this month, photos from the set of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow made their way around the internet, which featured the House of the Dragon star donning the signature cape for her debut adventure in the DC Universe and fans have had a lot of thoughts about it.
That's not particularly surprising as fans have had a lot of thought about all things DCU since the brand reboot was announced back in 2022. James Gunn and Peter Safran are overseeing rhe relaunch with Gunn's own Superman movie arriving in theaters this summer. Rumor has it that Alcock will make her official debut as the Girl of Steel in that movie, setting the stage for her return in her solo adventure next summer.
But in the meantime, audiences have these set photos to go on, and they look thrilling.
Fans are loving Milly Alcock's "comic-accurate" Supergirl suit
With the first set photos and videos of Milly Alcock as Supergirl making their way online (where they can be viewed here), fans have now gotten their first look at the Girl of Steel's iconic suit. To say that they are thrilled by the costume would be an understatement.
Multiple users responded with the enthusiastic mix of "Let's go" and "We won", while another posted a GIF of Martin Scorsese, adding "DCU cookin'". Another fan was extremely excited, commenting: "THIS LOOKS PERFECTTTTT AAAAAA" The consensus is that going with the comic-accurate look here was the right decision, and fans are positively thrilled about it. One even said that, although the images are from far away, the suit could potentially look even better than David Corenswet's Superman suit.
While Supergirl recently appeared on the silver screen in 2023's The Flash (which was part of the DC Extended Universe franchise before its demise), that version of the character was based on the Lara Lane-Kent iteration from the DC Comics, so she sported a very different look. It was comic-accurate when it comes to representing Lara's suit, but as Sasha Calle was technically playing Kara Zor-El, the suit divided people.
In contrast, the DCEU has gone for a very comic-accurate look. Alcock's Kara is sporting her signature long blonde hair, along with the iconic lighter blue uniform and the red skirt and boots combo. It's strikingly similar to both the suits worn by the original cinematic incarnation of Supergirl, portrayed by Helen Slater in 1984, and the beloved TV version played by Melissa Benoist from 2015 until 2021. Since both of those suits are considered iconic, it's safe to say that Woman of Tomorrow will be in a good standing with fans if it adopts a similar look.
Photos from the set have been making headlines recently because, not only have they unveiled the first look at Alcock suited up as the Girl of Steel, they also unveiled the first look at Jason Momoa as the villain Lobo. Granted, those ones aren't as clear as the Supergirl ones, but it's still resulting in a lot of discussion about this movie. The good news is that it's all positive discussion as the hype for Supergirl has only increased.
