Jon Favreau will participate in CinemaCon's annual Creative Community luncheon in Las Vegas on April 16, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The Mandalorian and Grogu director and writer will attend a chat moderated by The Town's host, Matt Belloni. This will take place before Disney's CinemaCon presentation, which will take place at 2.30 p.m PT, when Favreau will present The Mandalorian and Grogu, starring Pedro Pascal.
Cinema United's president and CEO, Michael O'Leary says, “Anticipation for a new Star Wars movie on the big screen is sky high, making this an incredible way to kick off the summer movie season." He adds, “This event presents a great opportunity to hear from Jon Favreau, one of the most talented filmmakers working today. I want to thank Jon, Matt Belloni for hosting, as well as the entire teams at Disney and Lucasfilm for helping ensure this luncheon will be the talk of CinemaCon.”
It will be interesting to see how much of the CinemaCon presentation makes its way online via social media. We expect media outlets in attendance will share updates, but if new footage or first looks of any kind are shown during the presentation, there is a chance fans will not see the media released online. CinemaCon is notorious for debuting materials that are only shown to those in attendance. Hopefully, that will not be the case if new materials are previewed during the presentation, but we'll have to wait to see what Disney and Lucasfilm choose to release online.
Thankfully, The Mandalorian and Grogu's press tour is right around the corner, with the next Star Wars movie scheduled to release in theaters on May 22. Plot details remain limited to the handful of teasers and the two official trailers released so far by Lucasfilm.
Apart from Pascal, who will spend a significant time in the armor, with and without the helmet, the movie also stars the legendary Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White. Favreau revealed that huge sets were built for the movie, with the IMAX aspect ratio in mind. The movie will rely more on sets and practical effects instead of the Stagecraft technology used in The Mandalorian. Three-time Oscar-winner Ludwig Göransson will return as composer for The Mandalorian and Grogu for the first time since season two of the series.
The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+, and The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22.
