The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for its first big crossover in more than seven years, and all the pieces are falling into place to make history happen yet again — or at least, some of them are. See, multiple actors have gone on record to say they won't appear in Avengers: Doomsday ahead of filming. Both Chris Evans and Kathryn Hahn confirmed audiences won't see them suit up and reprise their roles as Captain America (or a multiversal Human Torch) and Agatha Harkness, even if the multiverse as a whole will undoubtedly need them. Unfortunately, that list just gets longer and longer as more time goes by.
There's no denying that all eyes are set on Avengers: Doomday and Secret Wars to feature the return of beloved characters we haven't seen in years. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to aid in the fight against Victor Von Doom, even when this is shaping up to be Marvel's biggest crossover to date. Moon Knight is the perfect example since he will reportedly miss out on the multiversal war (which makes sense since he hasn't been properly introduced to the rest of the MCU as a whole). Unfortunately, a beloved actor confirmed they won't be returning as well, even if everyone assumed we'd see their character alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
The fight against Doctor Doom hasn't even begun, and the situation looks more alarming than ever.

Elizabeth Olsen confirms she won't be back in upcoming Avengers movies
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Olsen confirmed she won't be back as the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Production for both projects is expected to begin in April 2025 in the U.K., and the iconic Marvel legend says she won't be there for filming:
"No, I’m back [in the States]. I just finished [Panic Carefully]. I’m moving on to filming a pilot for FX [called Seven Sisters]."
Ever since her presumed death during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, audiences have been eager to see where Wanda Maximoff will show up next. Disney Plus' Agatha All Along teased her character for a moment, as well as the idea that there was something suspicious about her death. Furthermore, we also heard reports that indicated she'd be "a main player" in both Avengers movies (which we theorized could be due to her relationship with Doom and her powers eventually allowing the creation of Battleworld). All evidence seemed to suggest we'd see The Scarlet Witch's comeback, and yet Elizabeth Olsen confirmed that won't be the case. So what happened?
There's always the possibility that Elizabeth's statements are just a ruse, and she's trying to preserve the surprise as Andrew Garfield did leading to the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sure, the scheduling conflicts may appear to be a problem at first sight, but Maxblizz reported that filming for Marvel's upcoming crossovers will wrap in August 2025. That means there is time for Elizabeth to fly back to the U.K. after filming the pilot for Seven Sisters and suit up for the fight against Doctor Doom.
While it (unfortunately) makes sense for some big characters such as Moon Knight to skip both Avengers movies, the same cannot be said for Wanda Maximoff who has always been an integral part of the MCU as a whole. For a moment, it was even theorized that Marvel revealed her fate after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in the TVA (2024) comic book series. That's how eager everyone is to see her back in action.
On the bright side, reliable insider Cryptic HD QUALITY (who has correctly reported on many Marvel scoops in the past) has teased that Elizabeth Olsen's comments might be just a "lie". Besides, Wanda's character was teased to be a Nexus being in the MCU during the events of WandaVision, so it seems likely that such a key plot point will gain relevance once the multiverse starts to collapse and she becomes one of the only characters who can "reshape" reality.
Thankfully, there's so little time left until the release of Avengers: Doomsday that we won't have to wait long before figuring out if The Scarlet Witch is really back or if Marvel has other plans in store for her character. Hopefully, we'll see more of the iconic Marvel hero on the big screen!
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
