Major Marvel star confirms they won’t return in Avengers after all

While it would be natural to assume the upcoming Avengers movies will feature every MCU character to date, there will be one big exception.

The multiverse is falling apart and the Marvel Cinematic Universe needs all of its heroes to step up now more than ever. Entire worlds will collide and Doctor Doom will attempt to seize everything amidst the chaos. It's an extremely dire situation, and The Avengers will need all the help they can take if they hope to save the day once again. That means bringing together every new sorcerer and superhero introduced from Phase 4 onwards.

With Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars on the horizon, audiences expect to see bigger team-ups than ever before. Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to make it to the party as revealed by an iconic actor.

Yes, it seems that a big Marvel fan-favorite won't be around when their knowledge and expertise are needed the most, which only brings more questions than answers about their future.

Kathryn Hahn reveals Agatha Harkness won't be in the next Avengers movies

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy-nominated actress Kathryn Hahn revealed she won't portray the role of Agatha Harkness in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. When asked if the witch might appear in either one of them, she said that she doesn't think so, adding "I think I would know by now."

Unfortunately, there seems to be a bit of a pattern of "supernatural" Marvel characters missing out on the next big crossovers — especially considering that Moon Knight will also suffer from the same fate.

At first glance, this situation wouldn't seem like too much of a problem given that a Midnight Sons movie is reportedly in development, and characters like Agatha and Moon Knight would be the perfect protagonists for the occasion. Besides, the two could feel a little out of place in a multiversal adventure given that their stories have been mostly isolated from the rest of the MCU. It would all seem to check out until we remember who else is seemingly confirmed to appear in at least one of Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Thanks to official concept art for the upcoming Marvel crossover, we know Wiccan will join Earth's Mightiest Heroes in their mission to stop Doctor Doom from conquering the universe. And wouldn't you know it, but the last time audiences saw the superpowered teenager he was on his way to find his missing brother Tommy Maximoff, a.k.a. Speed, and Agatha was right next to him ready to venture into this new journey. To make matters worse, it also seems that Speed will make an appearance in an upcoming Avengers movie as well, so this begs the question: Why is the devious witch the only one missing?

While it would technically be possible for Marvel to show Wiccan and Agatha reuniting with Speed before the crossovers take place (and Agatha could go her separate way afterwards), it seems highly unlikely that will be the case. After all, none of the other upcoming movies or series before Doomsday or Secret Wars seem fitting for the long-awaited family reunion.

We also need to consider the possibility that Agatha will indeed have a role to play once the multiverse collapses, and Hahn is just adopting the Andrew Garfield method of denying until the films are released. After all, chances are that Marvel wouldn't let her spill the beans on something as important during any interview. Besides, if Disney wants to surpass the levels of success achieved with Avengers: Endgame, then every new MCU character needs to join in the fight against Doom. Only then we could witness an even bigger and greater crossover, and Agatha could help in achieving that goal. (Furthermore: we need to see her cross paths with Wanda too after the events of WandaVision.)

For the time being, it would be best to trust Kathryn Hahn's comments and assume Agatha won't be in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. In the best-case scenario, Marvel has a huge surprise awaiting us. Besides, chances are we'll see her character again even if it isn't in the big crossovers. So it's just a matter of time before we find out what Agatha has been up to ever since losing her physical body.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
